With the complete and utter DISASTER in the deep South now, the Americans would have to be crazy to continue this Tariff even one more day! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!!!

how did the yanks shot themselves in the foot though. I know it is painfully obvious to everyone else, I just don't see it.

I'm guessing he thinks we are crazy because the cost of the tariffs add about US$3000 to every new house constructed. So one could infer with all the rebuilding necessary after Katrina, we could really use lots of cheap lumber, and we're stupid to not just say "Send it in!" - hurting ourselves by maintaining the tariffs. I honestly don't have any predictions how Katrina will play into the picture, if at all.

The softwood lumber tariffs are destroying the lumber industry in some areas, The Lumber industry should be more of the more robust industries, but now it's fading in some areas because of the protectionist polices of teh American government and the inability of our government to combat these moronic policies that spit in the face of free trade.

Maybe.
In the deep south, they build more with concrete products than lumber, but, I'm way out on a limb if I try to say what that means. Surely lots of lumber is used too. No crystal ball here, or I'd look into it to see if friends are safe.
