Steven Harper makes official complaint to USA

I've just been looking at the CBC News on the Internet via www.cbc.ca/newscast.html from here in the UK and see that Steven (or is it Stephen?) Harper is making an official complaint to the USA regarding some guy who was taken with American help to Syria where he was tortured. Apparently he was taken as he was supposedly a terrorist when it turned out he wasn't. It mirrors the story of a German of Arab background that I read about somewhere a few weeks back.
I don't know the full facts of the story but certainly agree with the principle of Mr Harper doing such a thing. I would never see Tony Blair doing such a thing here, given the fact he adores and idolises GWB so much, so for standing up to the 'lets ride roughshod over everything' USA, well done Mr Harper.
Apparently part of the problem is that the perp in question is legally Syrian in addition to having Canadian citizenship. As I'm hearing it his claims of Canadian citizenship were considered suspect because he was travelling with two passports and he was deported to his homeland of Syria.
He needs to be a Canadian or be a Syrian. Pick one.
well it doesn't help if the rcmp give false information to to the US now does it?

One of the few decisions, I actually approve of by Harper, mind you in his case it is nothing more than political maneuvering in the wake of the turning of the political tide down south. It is an opputune time to distance himself from the current administration, as he will soon be pandering to a new crowd.

If I were you I wouldn't hold my breath on the mirage of some changing political tide to the south. Don't be a sucker to the American MSM. I suggest Harper send someone to Syria, instead of bitching to Bush.
Yup, that's about right. The US is unabashidly what it is. Want accountability? honesty? look somewhere else.

Scuse me mr stars and bars ... he was a Canadian with dual citizenship. It is allowed here. Maher Arar was not a "perp". He was a Canadian citizen travelling on a plane. He did nothing wrong, but he was tortured for a year in Syria.
However, I am not blaming the US as Harper is. The only thing narcissist Harper loves better than Bush's ass is his own, and he's nailing the US rather than take any blame for the rcmp.
I actually agree with Hyperion on this!
Will wonders never cease!?!
