U.S. bans Canadian poultry

$1:
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- The United States has banned poultry from mainland British Columbia because of bird flu, but Canadian officials say the virus is not the virulent strain in Southeast Asia and that has been blamed for more than 60 human deaths.

The interim ban was announced Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Canada's chief veterinary officer Dr. Brian Evans said he received a letter from American officials saying they were restricting imports of poultry products from the British Columbia mainland until they get a full assessment of the situation in the three-mile (five-kilometer) area around the farm affected by avian flu.

I wonder if they're going to stop migrating geese at the border too.

Man, talk about over-reaction! first, thousands of birds were destroyed because 1 was know to have the virus, which is not harmful to humans. And now the US has banned BC poultry? It just makes no sense. Odds are Americans were more likely to get ill via food poisoning than from bird flu

Perhaps the wild bird that transfered the virus to the farm bird came from the states.

Hah.. soon they will have radars in the air that block anything on canadian land from entering the USA.. guhh.. when will it stop!!

Hmm, good point, 'cause i like chicken. It'll depend on location though. BC maybe, not sure about the rest of the country. I know there is alot of chicken out in my hometown. But if the US goes and closes the border completely ... cheap bird-meat for everyone!

We should tell 'em our power and water are infected, but our softwood lumber is good to go! The whitehouse monkey would def' buy that one!

StaceyRae @ Mon Nov 21, 2005 8:31 pm

ooh.. and tell them our oil is contaminated in some way

Arctic_Menace @ Mon Nov 21, 2005 8:33 pm

Funny how this comes so close to America's thanksgiving. My guess is they want their citizens to buy "all american" so that the American government can get more money to help with their struggling economy.(Ours isn't exactly great either.)
