We're lucky to have the Americans as our neighbours.
I honestly can't think of any other country I'd rather have as a neighbour, maybe Britain or Australia.
I know I'd rather have America - they've been very good neighbours to us and we've prospered because of our close relationship with them. Imagine how terrible our country would be if we were stuck living next to some XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXX XXXXX It wouldn't be too much fun, I just had to say it.
Thats a bit too close to racist buddy, we do not discriminate against anyone because of thier religion here..

I kind of like the Mexicans. I gained a lot of respect for them during the Cancun summit meeting.

prospered because of the softwood lumber bullshit and the mad cow bullshit? and how about alberta practically giving it's oil away to the states and we are still paying over 70c a litre, and then ralph saying to the media that bush's "missile defence shield" is welcome in alberta if teh fed gov't approves it.
and that is just the start.
as far as i'm concerned, canada is taking bush's dick up the ass.

We are extremely lucky to share a border with the US. The benefits far outweigh the nitpicky downsides that everyone blows out of proportion and keeps harping on.
Imagine Canadian taxes if we actually had to support a military capable of defending our own borders and did not have land-based access to the largest economy in the world.

I don't hate the USA, i like Boston. But the USA needs a huge military becasue its likes to police the world, and everyone 'hates' the USA so it needs to defend itself from those people. Though i do think if the USA cut its militaty budjet in half for 5 years, and took that money and put it into public schools and hospitals it would work out in the long run. So what they might have to shut down one of there many missile silos in denver (i think thats where they are) and scrap the patroit missil system (it has never worked and cost 100's of milions f dollars). The has the money to have the best health care and best education in the world, but it seems not to want that.
I think France has the best health care in the world, and I think one of the Scandinavian countries has like 99% literacy rate.

I agree, I think that we are good neigbors but they dont really give two shits about us. They are just looking out for THE USA. and we dont really matter.
NAFTA when it works in favour of the US.

I logged on because I found a page on this site that was very anti-American about the War of 1812 stating we dont know what the hell happened to us. I was going to list what happened but realise I dont think the page is really available unless you search for it so it is not intended for general audience. Yes we know we lost taking Canada (what a loss, you would have made a fine addition to the States - JUST KIDDING).
The US does care about Canada, exactly because we care about economics. Dont get me wrong, I really love Canada... I have visited many times and love the people and the Country. But our good relationship has made free trade beneficial between us and both our Countries have a higher standard of living. Mexico is great but I would never consider living there. I hope they can join the productive world and start producing. I would love to have as productive neighbor SOutrh as we have North! Keep up the great work... free trade is an economic theory that may have its bumps... but seems to be most efficient and raises the standard of living by those who participate in comparative advantage!
I am coming to Canada soon to spend lots of money... so see... now you love me too!
C/ya!

WOW, I can't beleive the negative attitudes toward the U.S. I have family on both sides of the border and while we have had some heated discussions about politics we always end up respecting both sides. I was raised on both sides of the border and I'm offended by bashing either side. I'm an American and I"M VERY PROUD of that fact, HOWEVER, I also have alot of Canadian blood and I"M VERY PROUD OF THAT TOO! So when I see bashing of either side, I take it personally. I could respond to each post but suffice it to say, most of the reasons for bashing the U.S. that I have read here are unfounded and flat out wrong!
I wouldnt say it was U.S. bashing, its a forum where every one has an opinion and both sides are allowed to make thier points,, (freedom of speech is great isnt it), but you have to alkso understand that this is a Pro canada site and you should expect a certain amount of ht to go on... But if you take the time to read most of the so called anti American posts you will see that its not so much an ANTI AMERICA things as myuch as it is an anti American policy/government deal... For the most part veery one here does think of the regular American as a sort of brother if you'd like, but some have a problem with the "govt"... BTW Welcome to the forums and I hope to see you here posting your viewsd and reading your "pro-America" comments

Canada is a relativly small (population wise) country living next door to an insanely wealthy and powerful country. Does the USA use its power to leverage every red cent it can out of Canada? It sure does. Is there resentment among the Canadian people? You bet. Most Americans are unaware of how their governments foriegn policy affects other countries, even their 'brothers' to the north.
After years of being screwed over and watching Canadian resources (natural and otherwise) head south, I can deafinatly see where the resentman comes from. We aren't the only country, you don't like the feelings toward Americans? Pay closer attention to what your government is doing.

It's all give and take. We both gain. Canada gains by having a massive market (The strongest economy in the world) with which to sell our stuff to, and, we get off scot free with defence - thus, allowing us to spend crazy amounts of money on social programs like healthcare, and welfare for all our losers.

The only 'stuff' we sell south of the border is our natural resources which, thanks to NAFTA, the US pretty much has rights to anyway. Then we get to buy back the finished product. I was an engineer in a Canadian company, we entered a market which was dominated only by large american companys. In four years we were building a better product for a cheaper price and employing over 500 people. The company was then bought out by one of the huge american conglomerates and moved south. 500 Canadians out of work. It's the same story everywhere. Give and take, we give natural resources and take it up the 'chute buying finished product back.
I havn't even touched on the prairie farmers getting screwed by George Dubya...
I'm assuming you didn't check out the link I posted, here's a preview. Go read the rest!

OTTAWA — Canadian business and government must play hardball with their American counterparts if they want to survive devastating trade wars with the United States, says an influential forest-products executive.
That aggressive approach involves hinging U.S. access to Canada's plentiful oil and gas supplies on fair access to U.S. markets for Canadian companies, said David Emerson, chief executive of lumber giant Canfor Corp.
Canada will gain strength if its industries stick together in trade disputes, Emerson said.
