Well .. what is it?
Because it's "socialist" ???
Pfft whatever.
But seriously, what is your problem with OUR healthcare system?
There jealous
Hmm i ill have to research this a bit.
Is it true that sweden is even more "socialist" society than Canada?
I don't know.
All I can say is that I work hard for no money. And the stuff I buy is grossly overpriced.
The healthcare here is NOT free, like everyone thinks, there is a user fee.
The only thing you don't get billed for are phone calls to and from the doc.
It's just like Canada here.
Except the government does your taxes. You fill out a form and then they decide how much you should get in a return.
Apparently the welfare system here is pretty good. I wouldn't know. Nor will I ever know.
Change a few things about the government here and then they would be dead centre.
But they are on the Socialists spectrum of things. But not by much.
Some people's priorities are very skewed.
If the right to bear arms is more important to you than your personal well-being and health, you have some serious issues to deal with.
What is it that Americans don't like about our healthcare?
Prolly cause THEY dont have it......
I think that they (the US) just haven't the inclination to do the research and learn that our health care is not free. They have to buy health insurance and so do we.
If your head is severed your not turned away from their hospitals, just like your not turned away from ours. The only people in Canada who receive free health care are Welfare recipients. Is this different then in the states?
Your right Twila, Nothing is free...no matter where you live. And you are right. The term free health care is a cool political catch phrase but, like all catch phrases, are pretty much worthless drivel.
would like your healthcare system. There's been a lot of misinformation spread down here by the HMO lobby, in the form of commercials that portend nightmarish red tape and long lines should a single-payer system ever be adopted be the US. Of course, this is nonsense. In fact, it seems to me that some congressman from northern states are sponsoring bus trips across the border, so that senior citizens can buy affordable prescriptions.
Albertans must pay health care premiums to be covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.

There are two regular premium rates:

Also If you earn below a certain amount you can be subsidised and your
premiums are lowered..

RH, is that for basic medical?
In BC we have the same. For me, single parent, lower income I pay $80.00 per month. This covers my visits for check ups and that's it. Thank fully my employer pays for my dental and extended medical. If they didn't I'd be paying over $200.00 a month for basic and extended.
How free is that? It is also illegal for anyone in BC not to have basic medical! Again, how is that free?
I haven't personally heard ANY criticism of out helthcare system from the Americans. But if they DO disapprove, it's probably because it is a socialist system. Americans seem critical of anything socialist, probably because the Soviet Union used that word and ruined it for everybody.
Canadian Heathcare sucks! it's not the worst by far but it certainly isn't the best. The best is in the United States but only if you can afford it. Do you think rich Canadians seek quaity heathcare in Canada? No, they go to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. or some other reputable facility south of the border. You can be as much as a bleeding heart on the whole topic as you want but that doesn't change the reality that healthcare is an industry just like any other industry. Doctors, nurses, R&D companies, and all the other professionals in the heathcare industry don't work for free. What it comes down to is Canada can't and has never been able to afford delivering the best healthcare to all Canadians. If the Canada Healthcare Act was to be similarly applied to the transportation industy all Canadians would be required by law to take the bus or public tranportation, why? because the government can't afford to buy everyone a car, it's the same in healthcare the govenment can't afford to give all Canadians the best healthcare> What it is is a big farce, Canadian govenment propaganda, the truth is people have died up here waiting
for life saving procedures, Why? because supply and demand has been taken out of the whole equation of delivering quality healthcare. I do feel there should be and could be good health care provided to under privledged Canadians but why does communist like pholosiphy have to prevail. I'm not a millionaire but if I am on my death bed I certainly do not want to be in a room with 3 other strangers sharing one room with one toilet just like I wouldn't want to take a bus to a friends funeral.
I'll have to agree with...well most of your post MJ, you really should register though man, you bring up great points. Apparently our honorable non-corrupt government (hah) is planning to pump the healthcare system soon, I have no clue as to how, but oh well. I do have to say one thing though, sure the health care system may not be perfect, but its so far working pretty well right now, from what I see so far, there's probably some screwups hidden under the rug somewhere and I don't see it yet.I just havta say, it's better then having no health care.
