Our education system is decent up here...it varies a lot from province to province and school to school. Our universities are also a lot cheaper for Canadian citizens. That's all changing though, in no small part due to US influences. The readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic crowd are pretty vocal and university tuitions are getting high enough that only upper middle class and up can really afford to go.

The thing is that we have a history of being well-educated since the 1950s or so because we got away from the three rs crowd, learned about the world, and kept post-secondary education affordable.

As an example of how far things have sunk....During Mike Harris' reign of terror in Ontario, his education minister had only a high school education. Harris didn't even have that. Now I don't that think that education=brains, but the massive funding cuts that occured showed a disrespect for knowledge that only the truly ignorant could abide.

Right no people in Ontario are worried that the new Liberal Premier might raise taxes and give the teachers (gasp!) raises. Why should they get raises? They are only in charge of the children's futures, after all.

Those are attitudes that we first heard spewing from the Reagan Administration...a kind of elitism that says only the wealthy should be educated and that teachers in public schools are basically welfare recipients with nothing better to do with their time.

Canada doesn't kill as many innocent civilians in developing countries.

A few is a few too many, but nowhere near as bad as a few hundred thousand.

Yeah yeah, anybody can make blanket false statements. The War in Iraq's casualties are not all due to US forces, a great deal of them are due to "insurgents" blowing up local markets and executing a busload of innocent people.

Of course ignore these things for your cause. Because dead civilians and soldiers are always good political ammunition. Right Streaker?

Streaker @ Sun Apr 13, 2008 3:41 pm

You're splitting hairs. The outcome of the invasion was the death of huge numbers of innocents.

Who invaded Iraq, again?

Well, the one thing I can say that makes the Canadian Government seem alot more caring then the US Government, is free health care :) Now, I don't know if we are the only country in the world that has free health care, well more or less free, but yea, that is one of the best things I can think of when comparing US/Canada. Anyway... Uhmurrcan, ABout the education system, I'm a grade eleven student in Ontario. And let me tell you, it sucks. Well, its a good system, but its alot of work, especially if you procastinate like I do. :D Another thing, about Nice Canadians and Nice Americans. It all depends on where you go... At my school, there are sooooo many assholes that treat everyone like shit, so yea, basically, when you go to another country, remember, every town has their village idiots and assholes.

Healthcare in Canada is not free.

Thats like saying that when the fire department or police come to your house its not free either...or walking down the sidewalk, or living a free country.

I think everyone knows what he means.

Some people think it's nifty to restart old threads. It's kind of boring now.
