Canada Kicks Ass
Famous Canadians vs. Invented in Canada?

Hey, I have ocassionally been wandering around the web, or reading a book, or whatever, and run into cool inventions, widgets, designs, techniques, or whatever that I find out were invented in Canada (or made, designed, first published, whatever).
I think, "well that's sort of noteworthy trivia, but it's not like anyone got famous for it".

I wonder if there is room for a "made in Canada" or "invented in Canada" type of category like the "famous Canadians" DB? Is there already a place for this? Should there be? I dunno, maybe it wouldn't get used enough, or otoh maybe it would get out of hand and people would post every garage tinkerer's and kid's science project there. It also wouldn't be good if it became an advertising area for products people just happen to like. It would have to have a be a technical improvement, new idea, or genuine invention or something. But if done right, I think it could be sorta cool. There might be a little bit of overlap with the "famous Canadians", but hopefully not too much. There are a lot of good ideas that come out of Canada that people don't know about, or don't know they have a Canadian origin. And no one becomes famous for them.

Just a thought. :-) I don't know how hard it would be to implement.

Ok, sorry to bother everyone, I missed it because I was looking at the top level like famous Canadians and famous quotes.
Still, I sorta wish it was more than a list, though. You can't fill in anything about it, or who invented it or whatever, like the "bio" section for famous canadians. :( It's nice that it's there, but some of the things I have run across aren't easily list-able without an explanation. So I wish it had an interface similar to famous Canadians. <shrug>.

I thought it was a French inventor........although I was wrong once before.......a long time ago.
Velcro comes from the words Velvet and Crochet. Velvet is the loop side and the hooks resemble crochet hooks. Years ago Velcro was also known as Hook and Loop.

hmm interesting idea. I could create a new database page dedicated to inventions and inventors.

A list but with more details like you say, and the option for people to add things and maybew comment on things
