I am thinking about expanding the forums once again. Broadening there scope yet again.

phpbb, which these forums are run on do not support sub-forums. But there is a bot out there, a very HUGE mod, that can make this possible.

So my idea is to expand inward, with subforums within forums that are already there. Might be some reorganisation in order as well.

For example, 2 areas I would like to expand is the sports forums and military forums. So on the main forum page there would just be a Sport, and Military forum. When you click them, they then list the sub forums.

This way things are more organised, the main index page doens't grow huge and we can expand.

So i need some opinions on this, and also suggestions for sub forums or how you might like to see it organised.

   

The obvious sub cat for the military thread to me is Canadian military and international military. Will troll through the others and see what I see.

   

Change can be hard.... this I'll have to think about.

   

I would like to see all the major league sports have thier own threads

   

I'd like to see a "Toro" subforum dedicated to all wonderful things me.

   

I don't know if I want to have to read about Vaseline and rubber underwear everyday dude

   

   

Not that this isn’t obvious coming from me, but what about a “Military History” sub forum?

   

I have no answers, but I do have some random thoughts.

I thought it was a good idea when you came up with a seperate section for the Canadian Elections 2005-06, and I think that kind of topic by topic organization can be good.

I also remember when you combined all the Quebec threads, and I think that worked, too. Of course, you can't read 250 pages of stuff before you post your first---but nobody seems to pay all that much attention to that rule.

I think, as a rule, there are too many individual threads. Every other week there's a news item that generates five threads, and all five threads get postings, when one would do just fine.

I guess my point is, I don't know if a scheme of topics will cover everything. I don't know how much you could pass off some of the editorial burden on mods for expanding and contracting the number of topics and sections.


---And one detail that might help: splitting "International & war" into "International news" and "War" and maybe even "War" should be split into "War" and "Iraq/Afghanistan".

   

   

I think it's a great idea! You could go crazy with the sub forums though. Military encompasses such a large scale, even if you just had the Canadian v International.

I really like the idea of the History subs too. WWI WWII and all the other major battles maybe?

Also agree with fatbastard on every major league sport getting their own sub

Exactly…as Trev was asking about sub-forums, hence the idea for a “Military History” sub-forum.
