After a month of me complaining to my host, they finally fixed the problem, but never told me what it was. "Today we did a lot of work, reconfiguring routers I think that helped"
I am not happy with the support I received on this issue but at least its back to normal now.

Yeah, they fixed something, I was around late last night and the site was running a lot smoother, really nice to see it back to .....normal???....
