Site Problems on Sunday Aug 21st.
Interesting thought.
I couldn't post at all when the site was down. How did you manage that Jaime?

I don't know. I tried it again later, and I wasn't able to.
I assumed that whoever was working on the site pulled the plug on that when he saw that idiots like me were still posting.
Seems to me the site is still acting up. I get writing overlapping, especially at the top.
I PM'd QBC, while the site was going Kurdazy, to report it. It was a convoluted way of doing it but I was able to get through and vice versa on getting QBC's replies.
I was working on the site, www.canadaka.net went to a notice message saying so.
But i bailed on my plans and just restored my backup.
Its going to take A LOT more time and effort to upgrade the site to the newest phpnuke/phpbb/nukesentinel
its a nighthmare! because of all the mods, hacks and addons CKA has to the normal phpnuke

here is something interesting;
me: "why have you attacked cka?"
Hacker: "no ingilis you turkis men yes"
to me it sounds like he thought we were turkish.
Yes, I can see how all the Maple Leafs/flags/Hockey/Quebec blah blah would enable someone to confuse us with Turks.
i'm sure the people who have hacked the site have nothing againsts the site or Canada, they just hack because they can, they will hack any site they can get into
Trevor, I love arguing with people on this site and I'm embarrassed to admit I'm starting to feel a....kinship?
Either way, I have a better understanding of what you have to deal with. I'll donate soon. Not over the net though. Is the snail mail address on your profile still good?
yes it is, also listed on the contact page.
Made some progress, in order to keep disruption of the site to a min I am workong on getting the new phpnuke and sentinel security working on a copy of the site. Gunna take some time to go through and copy the bits of code which I have modified to the new phpnuke framework. as well as the phpbb forum, thats bit of a nightmare!

Time to switch to Linux. enough of these M$ kiddies.
Using Linux is no added protection, really. The best practical defense is to keep up to date with the latest exploits and bug fixes for all of the software you use. Linux just makes it easier by allowing you to alter the code without asking permission and paying a lot of money. The caveat is that an unsecured Linux box provides more tools to wreck havoc than a Windows box does.
BS. There are 1000X more exploits in M$ code then Linux/Unix, Most hackers run a UNIX platform to launch attack. And some use this as a
code of ethics.
I don't want to get into this argument, but Windows Server can be just as secure as any linux server. There is not more holes in M$ code than linux, just mroe people finding them. If the same effort was put into hacking linux they would find much more. But no one does that because why target 5% of the market or whatever.
I used to use freeBSD to host CKA, but I much Prefer W2K3.
It is most likey the fault of exploits in the phpnuke code anyway.

I got the reply from my security group - it seems what I captured was a lot of sniff traffic followed by an upload of a WEBADMIN.PHP file and then the bandwidth crush I saw afterwards was the upload of their stupid webpage over and over. The advise I'm getting is to rename your admin files to (random characters).PHP and then specifically deny rights to webadmin.php to prevent this from happening again.
we bad min .php?
