about 2 weeks ago i upgraded the PHP version on the server and switched from the SAPI dll to the CGI exe php.
this fixed all the login problems people had been having, but the site too mean seems slower, does it seem slower to others?
Rest assured this is without a doubt the slowest site I have ever been exposed to. What does the future bode? Is it becuase of the heavy reliance on commercial activity?
well you are a new member, so you cna't really compare to the past too much..
what do you mean by "commercial activity".
it costs a lot of money for high speed servers and bandwidth.
It's been really slow, trev. I gave up trying late this afternoon because it was virtually stopped. I don't know anything about the technical stuff it takes to run a site, but it reminded me of the days when a 28k modem was state of the art and you could tell how busy Sympatico was by how much things slowed down.
I have a cable hook-up and a much faster computer now, so I'm not that patient anymore.
The site has been stable but sluggish. No time outs however.
I am running a fairly nice computer (Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz) on cable internet. I find at times it takes a sec, but the longest page load time I've had is like 15-20 seconds, max. But I am always on MSN so I just switch windows and come back to it in like 10 seconds and its usually done. I don't notice real time. I will time how long this post takes to post. It is midnight pacific time so not a real peak time, but we'll try...
Okay less than 2 seconds from click to "This message entered succesfully" and the from clicking on "View Message" it took under 4 seconds.
it seems the cgi version of php is much slower at high volumes compared to the windows native isapi version. But I get the mysterious login problems with that. i might try out the isapi php again, see if the problems are still there, see if the speed is better
I just got the PHP5.x ISAPI version working again and instantly the site is 10x faster. But could run into the login and php exception errors again. please let me know if you have any problems so i can try and fix it.
This site is pretty slow to load. Several times, I just gave up trying. I suspect that some of it is just plain busy. All the eye candy must slow it down; especially the avatars. Is CKA running a Windows server? Linux servers are much better at multi-tasking.
