I still think the nominations should be by moderator only, no one else. I said this a while back and I'll say it again:

IMHO, do it like the green machine. You get what you get, accept it or not. No self- promotion, no whining, straight up merit. Maybe you'll get recognized, but most likely not.

If the mods don't notice it then it falls into the most likely not category. A truly deserving nomination could go to the mod in charge of the thread by PM. That then would twig the mod, wouldn't it? Since it wouldn't be public knowledge, then if the nomination was turned down the person would never know, conversley, if you did earn it then the next time you logged on it would show up and be a suprise.
I like your self promotion idea.

I see your point, but it is still a surprise if they get it...like when Hoser got his Uber Canuck...he didn't know...or maybe he's just slow... 
anyhow...I still like that everyone can put in their ideas... Maybe you should make a poll on it?
