thanks, thats great to here, i'm always trying to improve it. With the new front-page layout I made some more tweaks that should make the page load faster. The frontpage often loads in under 1sec for me now.

I am just making a graphic to load on the frontpage for a day or so to let people know about the changes.

I have 2 questions about what people prefer.

1) right now I am showing desciptions, do people like them shown or to hide them and only show in the mouseover.

2) after you visit a news link the title color and description text will dim, so you can tell which links you have viewed from ones you hanv't when you relead the page. But I think it might make the page look kinda messy... so want to see what people think. I could just make the colours stay the same.

Personally, I think having the descriptions hidden and only showing in the mouseover is better. Usually the title of the news article explains it all, but if not, the viewer can easily mouseover the title to see more information.

Here is the "News Voting Log" page that shows what people have been voting on. (there is links to it in various locations now)

I've been wondering if people vote based on the content of the article, or the quality of the article?

I definately think a description is not needed. Most times the title is more than descriptive enough.

i'd go with title and no fading. keep the look as clean as possible.

ok well some of you have responded, so i think I will try hiding the descriptions on the front-page, to make it more uniform, also make it easier to predict the length of the page to decide how much content is on the right side column.

On all the other news pages I will show the descriptions though, like the dedicated news page http://www.canadaka.net/news_links
that page is not fighting for front-page exposure, so I added a bit more spacing between each item and slightly larger title font.

On all other news pages I don't have the alternating white/lightgrey row colours like on the front-page. They are all white but have a blue mouse over colour, I am wondering what people prefer?

crap.. I just realised that the news hover popups don't work in fire(sux)fox, has this always been the case?

Nope. The Avatar ones work fine...if that's what you are asking.

see you never even knew it existed, heh. Im talking about on the front-page or any news pages, the red popups.

I re-made how the news popups are done, they work in firefox as well now.
