MoneySense Magazine released Canada's Best Places to Live in April (hopefully this hasn't already been discussed in another thread), ranking Canada's cities on a number of factors:

The sunshine factor - weather
Home cheap home - housing costs
Perfect pay - Income levels
Nice life - lifestyle factors
Real wealth - discretionary income
Crime and punishment - crime levels

The full explanation of the criteria are found in the link provided above. Here's the top 10 (with emphasis added, of course)

1 Ottawa - Gatineau ON
2 Halifax NS
3 Québec QC
4 Guelph ON
5 Fredericton NB
6 Kingston ON
7 Moncton NB
8 London ON
9 Victoria BC
10 Gander NL

Other major cities:

12 Toronto
13 Winnipeg
15 Vancouver
23 Montréal
27 St. John's
28 Calgary
31 Edmonton
39 Regina
70 Charlottetown

What do you think? The trend seems to lean toward smaller cities, it seems, which receives no complaint from me. I haven't examined the criteria in detail, but one should consider whether the values of the researchers are in line with personal values.

I've lived in Guelph (4 in the list) for a year. It's a small town with lots of fun. It's called the G spot, the centre of the universe. The business area in Guelph is well developed. An important university is located in Guelph

Well this is interesting. We’re looking for a nice place to semi-retire in few years. Guelph, Kingston, London (I was born there) and Collingwood (number 11) are all on our short list.

Can’t say I agree with Ottawa as number one; and I certainly don’t think Gatineau should have been linked to it.

This is the best part:

...
12 Toronto
...
23 Montréal

Take THAT Montreal... 8) That's all I care about, I don't care if Ottawa is at the top of this list, lol, I love Ottawa, just not their team. 8)

But I hate everything about Montreal...

Winnipeg at #13? Oh well. Not too shabby I guess.

I see they didn't include the non-boredom or the aesthetics factors.
