Lets try to make this thread fun and informative and try to stick to Canadian history
Hey RH, so where do we begin?
Tom , not to knock the HT site, but all of a sudden they got VERY restrictive with posting and such... Here we can talk about evry thjing under the sun more or less and even pick an avatar and post pics too... I think the giys would have fun here... How about we see what we can get goping from the "other" place...
Canadian history? No we're talking. I susbcribe to The Beaver, Canada's history magazine and the pix and articles are always great. I read a piece earlier to day about a biplane called Canadian Vickers Verdette that was first produced in 1924. This model was used by the RCAF and some provincial govts for fire patrol and aerial photography. Has anyone ever heard of this plane?
the Beaver sounds cool, do they have a website?
Hello C-A-N-A-D-I-A-N. Sorry for not reponding as I have been away. I was in Seoul visiting friends and participating in the Terry Fox Run. It was great. Yes, there is a website for The Beaver

Enjoy.
I think people make history and as far as Canadian go, my vote is for Terry Fox. There was a man who showed everyone that nothing is impossible. What about other opinions of Canadian heroes?
I know a friend of the family that is a runner, according to him Terry was simply unbelievable. To run 1 marathon a day is just insane, your supposede to take 1 week off before a marartohn to rest, and 2 weeks after one to pretty much just sleep and eat... Amazing man...
By the ways, dont worry aboot the late responce, ive been pretty swamped with school lately, so i havent had a chance to check it for a while
Hey 'me" I just joined this site so I'm a little late :http://www.wcam.mb.ca/NewWeb/AC/VICKERSVEDETTE.html
I agree Terry Fox is one of my Canadian heros and is for ever etched in our history ... Another of mine is Rick Hansson When I talk to my kids about Canada, I always add these two men who not only touched Canada but mankind.
Just there other night I was watching on Discovery (Euro's) about how the railroad opened the country up ! The one segment was how they built the rail over the Rockies ...When it came time to tell about the Kicking Horse Pass and how a train can climb and how many engines it takes I sadly fell asleep Where did the tunnel get it's name? does anyone know?
I'll toss out this a topic for this thread, for discussion.
Canadian sports heroes, from the past, starting with " The Big Train ".
Anybody know who that was, and what he was famous for?
Jim B.
If you want an interesting read try Anna Jameson's book, "Winter Studies and Summer Rambles"(1838) She is the wife of the Governor of Upper Canada (or some other such notable) who visits from England. She travels overland from York to Georgian Bay thence to Manitoulin Island and Sault Ste. Marie. I think her observations of frontier life and reflections on the character of those she met would surprise most people.
An interesting quote from the 1800's that I believe applies to todays "War on Terror."
"In morals what begins in fear usually ends in wickedness; in religion what begins in fear usually ends in fanaticism. Fear, either as a principle or a motive, is the beginning of all evil."
Anna Jameson
Wasn't 'The Big Train' Eddie Shack? The Leaf great. Clear the track, here come's Shack...
If anybody wants a good read on Canadian military history, im reading Testaments of Honour: Personal Histories of Canada's War Veterans by Blake Heathcote. Mr. Heathcote travels around the country and interviews veterans about there lives and war experiences. It is a very good book for anyone who is interested.
