BigBlueMachine BigBlueMachine:
No one prime minister can be the greatest. "Greatest" is a relative term and people have all different opinions of who is great and who isn't.

Then set up some parameters. Outline what aspects (be it historical legacy, legislative initiatives, vision, political acts) are required in order to establish the base criteria needed to be deemed “great.” It’s not difficult (although examining the actual historical components and evaluating their significance might start a debate) as American scholars (historians and political scientists) rank American Presidents (they use “Great” “Near Great”, etc categories and there is movement every year – Lincoln was #1.).

John A MacDonald built Canada.
Pearson introduced peacekeeping.

Even though I disliked Trudeau for his Liberal ideologies and the NEP because I'm an Albertan ,he did maintain leadership and did not dither or flip flop.

I say my favourite PM is John A.
My other favourite is Borden because he is a conservative with a quiet shy personaliry like me when it comes to talking to a crowd.

Nope, instead he screwed over Rene Levesque in arguabley the biggest Liberal scandal in Candian history.

Not only that, but he did it to pass a Charter that effectively gives the provinces the right to suspend your fundamental freedoms anyway.

Nice job PET - you sold screwed Quebec over because you didn't like Rene and didn't hold up to your end of the bargin as promised in your impassioned 1980 pre referendum speech to fairly reassess Canadian Federalism and include Quebec. Way to screw-up Canada for the next 25 years (and counting...)

My Picks: Lester B. Pearson (the man who made Canada stand out amoung her peers) and Brian Mulroney (the man who almost saved Canadian Federalism... almost.... thanks for nothing Manitoba)

I'd say Trudeau , His most famous words were "Just Watch Me" I can't think of any leader that got as much respect . I kind of find it funny how Paul Martin turned to Duceppe and pulled a trudeau with his line "I have a family history in this country and believe me you ARE NOT ! going to tear this country apart " The best part is the looks in their eyes ( Like the were about to fist fight ) Chretian was nothing more than a Trudeau offspring hopeful :?

John A. MacDonald
William Mackenzie King
Pierre E. Trudeau

I think the best Prime Minister was either Sir Wilfred Laurier because he was willing to do something about the protectionism of Sir John A. MacDonald and bring free trade or Brian Mulroney who succeeded in brining in NAFTA.

I believe Sir Robert Borden’s government was the most corrupt in history as it was willing to shift voting rules for it’s pro-war agenda.

Trudeau defeated the seperatists? People love to create scenario in their heads...NO ONE defeated the seperatist in 1980. The Québec people has decided by democratic way to stay in Canada that day...No fight,no guns,no glory...just a referendum.
