...Stephen Harper was elected the first leader of the new Conservative Party of Canada. The new party was a merger between the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance.
Within 2 months of his election as party leader, former Prime Minister of Canada, and former Liberal Party of Canada leader, Paul Martin pulled the plug on the Liberal majority parliament garnered by former Prime Minister of Canada, and former Liberal Party of Canada leader, Jean Chretien.
Canada's political right, now consolidated was able to reduce Paul Martin's government to minority status, with 99 seats for the Conservative Party of Canada. This came only a few years after pundits were predicting a 200+ seat landslide for the Liberal Party of Canada, under Paul Martin.
Two years later, in November of 2005, Stephen Harper, as the Official Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition, put forward a non-confidence motion, supported by the New Democratic Party of Canada and Bloc Quebecois, putting the nation into a winter election scheduled for January 23rd, 2006.
With much momentum, and the Liberal brand worn out from countless corruption, the Conservative were able to put forward a common sense agenda for Canadians, that garnered them a minority Conservative government.
This minority government is coming up to two and a half years and is close to becoming the longest and most effective minority government in Canadian history.
In only four years, Stephen Harper was able to turn Canadian politics upside down and dethrone the long-reining governing Liberals.
Stephen Harper, a part of our heritage!
And yes, I did write this myself, I didn't copy it! I noticed today was the anniversary when I was looking at my 2008 Conservative Party of Canada calendar which lists important Conservative milestones throughout Canadian history!

I'm just happy that Harper has proven that you don't have to be a crooked lawyer and/or from quebec.
Too true.
He proved you can be from Alberta and be just as crooked if not more.
Good call.
Question Derby: Are you just anti-Harper/the specific party, or are against the entire general idealogy of conservatism?
What is your political ideology (in short) ?
Would you ever vote for a moderate provincial P.C. party?
