I find it funny that his target hung around for 2 near misses before he was hit. Good interview but pretty late. Too bad these guys got screwed aound so bad they finally left the forces.
Good interview.

Funny queer or funny HAHA?

The target was probably unaware because he was busy firing a machinegun and not sitting under a tree eating his lunch.

I have always remarked on the ungratefulness of it all. When they need us they are glad to see us come and after just as glad to see us go. They seem to give us "the Mark of Cain."

target never knew where the shots were coming from, im sure he heard it....but seriously. when the bullet is coming from over 2 km away, I'm sure he hid behind a rock, just happened to be the wrong rock

I doubt those rounds would still be supersonic but they'd still kick up a divot when it hit. I do suppose that they probably had a few other things on their minds so they missed the occasional near miss. There is a very good book on Operation Anaconda and they had quite a few screw up on that mission.

I imagine he's on the top of the list when there's a hostage situation that needs to be dealt with.

Some people experience a momentary state of shock in such situations. It's not so funny when it's one of your people who's standing there wondering what the hell is kicking up dirt around him.

Bear in mind - the guy sees the dirt kicking up well before he hears the shot and he may well not logically connect the two stimuli to one common event - that being someone shooting at him.

Maybe not supersonic but well ahead of any sound of a muzzle blast and if sub-sonic no longer are breaking the sound barrier making a distinctive crack. Those big .50 rounds at 2 km are likely no more noisy than a Russian 14.7mm which no longer vibrates---no hum.

Any error at that range is likely windage so seeing a hit in the dirt before you will not happen. It went past you to God knows where. Took a crack at a ruskie at a big distance and the result was he looked over his shoulder to check out the hits on a truck way way behind him. The hits gave me the adjustment and then it was Swan Lake. BTW the misses wiped out the occupants of the truck cab. 14.7 Russian is a neat toy if you have ten Afghans willing to hump it.

He may not have been aware of what that snap was.
