No my uncle was, I've never served. The Green Jackets were the RRR sister regiment. Maybe they still are but I'm not sure what's happened since the re-alignment of regiments in the UK. Princess Anne made a comment about that the dinner I was at in June.
Not spoke t my nephew for a while but last time i did he was saying the RGJ were being re named to the Corps of Rifels (or something similar)......
Ya say ya uncle 'was' in RRR he out now???? How long he serve??
I done 5yrs with the Paras plus a further 2 yrs attached to another reg (sssssshhhhhh) still not supposed t say that, if ya know what i mean?

I guess he's still serving. He was KIA July 4/44 in Normandy.
Sounds like you've had to walk a few miles.
Sorry about ya uncle fella, one of many thousands. R.I.P
Ya can say ive done a fair few miles in my time.
Done a lot of work in Northern Ireland during 'the troubles' some scary times i'll tell ya.
tbh im some what glad i not still serving. I listen to some of the stories my nephew tells me about his friends in Iraq and Afganistan and its not nice t listen to. Its not the actual fighting its the lack of equipment and suppiles the lad are getting (or not getting) thats the worry also the lack of coordination between us and the 'god dam' yanks thats a worry.
Some lads have been over there a few months and still have to patrol without any body armour and limited rounds...

You went from ruling the world to now not even having enough bullets for your guns. That is kind of sad really.

Aint it just. But without the british being there things would be a lot worse fort the countries that are ie USA, Canada etc
On a purely professional level the british forces are still ranked the best in the world when the sh*t hits the fan. Just wish the infrastructure was equally as good

Oh I'm not denying their work or what British soldiers do but you are right they could use better supplies and support from the home front. Mind you so can Canada and I wouldn't say we are in that much better shape either. It would be good to see more of blighty in the world.

Dont really do politics on an in depth level mate and i cant speak for your government but ours seem more occupied with pleasing the 'minority' (soon t be the majority) in this country instead of helping our lads out over in iraq and afganistan.......... by the time they return there will be a mosque on every street corner
Dont really want to expand this convo on this point as i'll most probally upset some liberal, but lets just say England certain isnt what it was 10 yrs ago, we are fast becoming the dumping ground for every other country........god i wish i could get out of it

I think we share some of the same politics and many parties here are doing or want to do what your government is doing as well.
Heard a rumble from the excited states that some of their Police are curtailing training because of a lack of ammo......due to the operational and training demand of the US military. In some cases ammo is back ordered as far as a year.
Back in the bad old days of Nam....an ammo shortage was a brief, local unit thing. Ammo came down the line by the skid full. I've seen deuce and a halfs just sagging under the weight.
The whole damn world has gone to crap.
Pass the ammunition....

When the Democrats took a majority in Congress the ammunition contractors dialed down production to empty their warehouses in the expectation that the Dems would cut funding and sound a retreat - which is what they promised in the 2006 elections. Now that they won't put an end to the war the troops are running short of rifle ammo. There's plenty of 25mm and so on but .50 and NATO rounds are running short and the ammo firms are reluctant to dial up production knowing the Democrats might make sudden political moves that'll cost them millions in excess production.
By the way, welcome aboard, Phoenix6!
And the last year of 25 I helped spin up MARSOC but didn't do anything near as interesting as you probably did. I retired three weeks ago with a 25% disability - what about yourself?

basically i woke one morning and decided i didnt want to do it anymore (for many indepth reasons, that i wont and in some cases cannot tell you)
The majority of my service was done in Northern Ireland during 'the troubles' -2yr tour as a regular para. I returned at a later date in a more covert role, also breifly done some covert ops in the middle east. to be honest i very rarely talk much about my military past, brings back a lot of personal demons, if ya know what i mean
