GUN BARREL SMASHES THROUGH WINDSHIELD

A pickup truck driver was centimetres from serious injury yesterday when he drove his car into the barrel of an army howitzer.
The howitzer was being towed to Commonwealth Stadium to fire a salute for the Queen. The barrel of the 105-mm gun pierced the windshield of the Chevy pickup, narrowly missing the driver following the crash near Roper Road and 75 Street, around 11:20 a.m. yesterday.
"He was lucky," said Emergency Medical Services Superintendent Bruce McAlear.
The driver, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to University hospital with what were said to be minor head injuries.
The gun was one of four being driven from the headquarters of the 20th Field Regiment of the Royal Canadian Artillery on Roper Road to Commonwealth Stadium.
"Some of the convoy got stopped at the light, so we stopped to wait for them to catch up," said Sgt. Earl Simonsen.
"The pickup truck guy just drove straight into it."
Concern about damage to the barrel meant that the howitzer was taken back to the Debney Armoury on Roper Road while the other three guns carried on to the stadium.
The unit, which is made up of reservists, make several public appearances a year for honorary salutes at the Legislature for Remembrance Day, Canada Day and Victoria Day.
hopefully he wasn't "gunned at the time"
guess he didn't see it untill it was too late.. just like the artillary.. they always deliver....
At least it hit in the center of the windshield... a little buffing take that right out....LOL
I heard of camoflaging guns before but making one look like a chevy truck.. priceless boys....
Good thing the guy wasn't hurt badly..... just poking fun at what could have been extremly serious..
The gun was on the way to centennial celebrations, and was part of the 21 gun salute for the Queen. I guess a windshield and new pair of Fruit of the loom's is a small price to pay.
Rule #253 of driving in Edmonton: "Do not tailgate the military vehicle with the big gun."
worst case of "gun - orhea" I have ever seen... "snicker snicker"... hey I'm here all week till next tuesday thank you....
Check this thread for the crowning glory statement WRT this incident.

How the hell do you not see a friggen howitzer, parked on the side of the road for that matter? What a bonehead that driver is.
Lmao.. That happened about 4 blocks from where I work... Lots of folks had a good laugh over that, seeing the driver wasnt serioiusly hurt mind you
How embarassing would that be LOL I wonder what was distracting him that he didn't see that coming at him, I don't think he has a military career in his future LOL
Maybe he was distracted by the same thing this racecar driver was...

He probably didn't realize that Canada even had a military.
