Kill them they go home? Bring it B****
But it was still a small portion of the unit, which is why I see it as stupid to have disbanded them.....

Sure it was a small portion who did the killing and torturing.....But it was the majority who knew what had happened and who did it, and covered it up...
It was everyone that protected the soldiers who assaulted a Canadian Officer.
There was a general lack of discipline and culture of being un-professional....
One or two Liberals may have stole some money, Canadians kicked them all out.

And you know this based on your extensive time with the unit? Fuck off asshole, you don't have a fucking clue about what happened in Somalia or in Petawawa.

They banded together and decided to protect their buddies, they chose loyalty to their friends over loyalty to the military and their country.
After Somalia they made the same decision when they tried to cover up what happened.
Do you even have a fucking clue what went on in reference to the Somalia Inquiry? It was shut down by the government as soon as it started to show flaws at the very top of the chain of command!

Dude, those were a small percentage of the Unit. Which is why I think it was stupid of the Government to disband them. Not all of them did wrong.....
Thank you for a reasonable responce to a question by an agitating fuckwad!
Whole point is : Its not because you served in the military thst your point of view or sayings or ideas are superior to anyone else
I thought his point was that you were the one mouthing off, not the one doing the kicking.
You know, the whole you got to be able to cash the cheque your mouth writes thing?
A friend of mine served in the military for a bit before settling down into civilian life and the stories he told of the airborne were...fucked. Sure not everyone in the Airborne was like that, but the mentality was there. I can probably safely say that we've all been part of organizations that demand a certain mindset from their members and how some actions can escalate over time. I'm not going to mention specifics because that's not the point. The point is that the Airborne had become a bunch of sadists with God complexes and were a dangerous and destabilizing force within the Forces.

Where do I begin? If your friend is about your age then he would have been 8 years old when the regiment was disbanded! So obviously he would know nothing about the "mentality" of the airborne. If he was older, by about 10 years or more, than you and still never served in the airborne he would not know the "mentality" of the unit. He might have heard a story or two, from a friends brothers sister-in-law once removed, which again would hardly be first hand knowledge.
Also contrary to what most people who haven't served is the military is very "cliquish", combat arms trades slag those that aren't and vice versa. Do they hate each other, not always, but sometimes. Due to what transpired in Somalia, the knives were out for the Airborne Regiment. I am not saying your buddy actively did this but might have inadvertently got caught up in the rumour mill!
As a precaution I take everything with a grain of salt that begins with "A friend of mine said" or "I heard"
In reference to your last line, WTF have you been smoking, and where did you come up with such an unsubstantiated load of crap?

May I just say something as I am a soldier in the British Army but also a Canadian. I don't know alot about the Canadian Army and I only remember bits of what i saw on tv when I was younger in regards to the Airborne, but i am sure that forces the world over are generally the same. I know that our Paras (Airborne) do alot of things that normal civilians would consider f*cked up as do many of the other Corps and Regiments within the army. The media always finds a way to blow things way out of proportion!!! OK so from time to time some might go too far over the top but mostly it is just soldiers bonding and learning to trust eachother which is essential on the battlefield.
Just adding my 2 cents.

It seems even our British(Canadian) friends get what I mean!

Fucking disgrace. Cowards.
Bad things happen at Liberal caucus meetings.
The military fixed the problem.
The Government hid the problem.
With all you're delusions, it's no wonder the Libs thought that soldiers with guns would scare the sheeple into voting red again.

Don't judge the majority by actions of a minority. I do not condone anything that brings the army into disripute but unless you've experienced military life for yourself you cannot have any idea of what goes on.

I'm not judging the majority....
I'm saying it is a good thing we purged the minority (the airborne) to preserve the reputation (what was left of it) of the majority of our armed forces....
