Can't beat nuclear weapons for the deterrant factor. I don't think it would hurt to have a few. I don't tink technology would be an issue. The US might get a little excited. Probably best not to tell them until they're finished.

The idea of a country launching a nuclear attack does not worry me a whole lot. I can't think of any country wishing to actually invade Canada and launch a full scale war on our soil either. I can see rather individuals carrying out their own foreign policies and threats against us.
If people are that much worried about nuclear weapons though it would probably be far better to invest in some sort of missile defence against them and make others technology obsolete.

That was tried but the usual suspects went tarpaper at the prospect that holy mother Russia's nukes would be useless. You do recall the outburst against STARWARS.
Winnipeggers post just reinforces my position on the cost of building and maintaining nukes.
While Canada has the technical knowhow, the materials etc. KEEPING them clandestine would be totally impossible......some NDP or LIBRANO would spill it in seconds.
Trudeau was not/ is not the only politician who lacks the top secret clearance.
