Will humanity as we know it cease to exist soon?

This is a serious question and I want your opinions.
During the past 100 or so years technology and weapons have advanced exponentially. What I am wondering is will humanity as we know it be around in another 100 years?
We have had a few close calls within the past regarding full blown nuclear war which would have killed off a vast majority of people and I think that threat is always somewhat present, though at the moment is extremely low.
This quote sums it up nicely
"I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." Albert Einstein
What are your opinions on this?

Humans have always found a way to survive from the earliest proto-humans to the invention and use of nuclear weapons and their potential to kill untold millions of people.
Yes, but how many wars has the risk of nuclear war prevented? how many lives has it saved?
The risk of nuclear weapons has deterred wars I'm sure. And also it can be said that the use of nuclear weapons has saved lives. Sound crazy? I thought so too until I had read somewhere that the use of Fat Man and Little Boy (atomic bombs used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki) ultimately brought about the end of WW2. Although hundreds of thousands of people were horribly killed initally, the use of the bombs ended the war and in effect spared the lives of countless more soldiers and civilians that would have died if the planned invasion of Japan had taken place.

I absolutely agree with both of you when it comes to nuclear weapons deterring wars however that was at a time when the USA were the only ones with nukes. If one country were to nuke another country with nukes, I think we are all pretty much done with.

Yup, pretty much. But with all opossing countries knowing that, it's an ever lasting Mexican standoff....I hope!
