I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
Love Is Blue - Paul Mauriat--USA charts
Everlasting Love - Love Affair--UK charts
I don't have a clue what these songs are or who the artists are. I guess I should find out....
Paul Mauriat
Paul Mauriat's 1968 cover of Andre Popp's "Love is Blue" was the first instrumental to hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard chart since the Tornados hit with "Telstar" in 1962. Mauriat might be considered the last big star of the space age pop era, given his success with "Love is Blue" and its accompanying album, Blooming Hits and his essentially traditional easy listening approach to 1960s pop hits.
Love Affair
In 1968, only the Beatles sold more records in Britain than the Love Affair. Yet none of the band was over twenty, their brattish antics aggravated the cognoscenti and they didn't even play on their singles. The ace up their elegantly-embroidered Carnaby Street sleeve was Steve Ellis, an immensely talented singer whose voice belied his tender, 18-year-old frame.
