57% Support cut in gas tax even if it means running deficict
scarecrowe scarecrowe:
Screw running a deficit, cut spending on all the horse crap the gov. spends our money on....like the CBC.
That's the best you can come up with? The CBC?
If you really want to cut back on government waste, try making Harper's dinner plate a bit smaller!
Let's get real for a minute. There have always been alternatives but we, as a country, just didn't choose them. M. King Hubbert made his famous presentation about peak oil in '56. He was on TV again after the oil shock of the early 70's. He was ignored and then villified. That same oil shock should have been a wake-up call but we went back to sleep. City Planners have been talking about this for decades. The information has always been there if you bothered to look. Greed, apathy and laziness are why we're in the situation we're in.
I take no joy in any of this. A lot of people are already being badly hurt and there will be more misery to come. Suburbs are on the way out. Commuting is on the way out. Imported everything is on the way out. The economy of this country, based so much on exports, will necessarily shrink significantly. Think of oil as a big battery. Whether oil is running out or not there are 6.7 BILLION people trying to tap into that one battery with more coming every day. Wake up and smell the exhaust!
We got here by ignoring the facts. We got here by making bad choices. We either make better choices NOW or the future's just going to get worse and worse and worse.
well king harper says no/non... to tax reduction on gas... Canada is still an over taxed country.. so true to tory ideology.. the rich get rich and well the poor bastards,,well they can go fuck them selves or buy a bus pass... and so the imbalance between the rich and poor widens... gotta love them tories eh?

Canadians typically put environmentalism at the top of their concerns. However, they don't seem to want to do pay for it.
Idealism, not realism, reigns.

And yet the liberals are pushing for more taxes.

Canadians are only green until it comes to dipping into their wallets.
The economy trumps the environment, with this "slowing" of the economy the environment talks will always move to the back burner.
Yup. The Conservatives know this as well. The best platform is a lot of fuzzy warm sounding platitudes, but no inconvenience. That's what peopole want. Focus on environmental threats (or perceived threats) to human health like bisphenol-A, as opposed to species at risk or other environetmnal issues that don't directly impact human health.

Everyone that wants to lower the price of gas but keeps buying it is a hypocrite. You can reduce taxes, you can stop buying gas for five days, you can steal gas and sell it on the black market, the price will still go up, as long as you continue to use gas.
You can say that about food, cable, the Internet, TV, cars, guns, everything. How does that make me a hypocrite
Because you whine incessantly about the price of gas, yet are willing to do nothing to change your own lifestyle to reduce the price. The only way it will ever go down is if you stop buying gas.

6.7 billion? Are you sure about that? I think there's probably a rather large chunk of the world's population that doesn't own a car, if they've ever even seen one. The majority of the world's oil consumption comes from the world's richest countries, nobody else can really afford it.

How is lower the tax on gas going to lower the price at the pump? GST has been cut by 2% and the other taxes on gas have not changed in years yet the price of gas continues to go up.
Anyone who thinks that further tax cuts on fuel will have any effect on the price of gas is a bloody fool.
Hey, the poll say 57% of Canadians are bloody fools.
