In a matter of days, Justice Marty Irwin will hand down his descision on what, if any charges, anti-Semite David Ahenakew must face. Ahenakew's lawyer, Doug Christie argues that no crime was committed, therefore no punishment or censure is required.

'Christie said Ahenakew didn't know the media would attend and didn't know his conversation with the reporter was an interview. There was no evidence of intent to incite hatred, he said.'

What are your feelings on this case and what do you predict the judgement will be? Once again here is what the case deals with:

'In the taped interview, which was played in court, Ahenakew referred to Jews as "a disease" and said Hitler "made damn sure" Jews didn't take over Germany and Europe.

"That's why he fried six million of those guys," Ahenakew said.'

The moment Doug Christie's name is mentioned, alarm bells start to go off. This is a guy who also defended Jim Keegstra for teaching ZOG (Zionist Occupied Government) theory in his classroom. He defended Ernst Zundel for his anti-semitic pamphlets, and Terry Long's automated telephone hate hotline.

Hate crime laws exist for good reason, and must be enforced.

Man I hate that guy so bad.

Patrick_Ross @ Wed Jun 22, 2005 4:27 pm

Who? Christie or Ahenakew?

Patrick_Ross Patrick_Ross:
Who? Christie or Ahenakew?

Ahenakew of course. Saying all that stuff then denying it. What the hell gave him a right to say those things? I think he served in the Canadian military didnt he? Then he goes on saying Natives should retake all of NA or something like that. IN Sask its a pretty hot topic.

Patrick_Ross @ Wed Jun 22, 2005 4:32 pm

Well, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms gives him the right to say those things.

However, you can't have Freedom of Speech without having to accept responsibility for the things you say. Right now, he's being held responsible, just as Ernst Zundel, Jim Keegstra and Terry Long were.

Christie never ceases to amaze or disgust with stunts like this.

'SASKATOON - David Ahenakew's lawyer says the reporter who wrote the newspaper article that led to the aboriginal leader being charged with a hate crime should have been charged with the same offence.

Doug Christie told court Wednesday that James Parker, a former reporter with the Saskatoon StarPhoenix newspaper, knowingly disseminated hate by publicizing Ahenakew's anti-Semitic comments.' quoted from the Communist Bastards Corporation.

What a crock!! Expose a racist and you are labelled a racist by someone who willing chooses to defend racists. I wonder if Ahenakew knew that the Hitler Gang partially based their Final Solution on the tactics used in the European colonization of North America. Had National Socialism succeeded in Europe these ''Final Solutions"could have sprang up anywhere.

What would happen if some important Jewish community leader had of said, "Damn, too bad the US Army ran out of blankets." It would have been shouted down as racist BS, and rightly so. It would also still be big news, rather than a small sideline story.

Uhhhhh ok, so how does Christie amaze and disgust you?... Do you even comprehend the full picture?

ShepherdsDog @ Wed Jun 22, 2005 6:22 pm

Yeah, it's called redirecting blame and it's pretty pathetic

Patrick_Ross @ Wed Jun 22, 2005 7:13 pm

I can empathize with you, but as questionable as Doug Christie's character may be (if you read the book Web of Hate by Warren Kinsella, you will at least wonder) someone has to defend these individuals. After all, they have the right to legal representation.
Where Doug Christie starts to seem a little bit shady is when you get into the ideology that surrounded the "Western Canada Concept" (read: Western separatism), you get the idea that even if Christie is himself not anti-semitic, he has certainly allowed himself to become affiliated with a considerable number of people who are.

ShepherdsDog @ Wed Jun 22, 2005 7:27 pm

Read the book and it was pretty informative. As to who he associates with, Birds of a feather.....???

Patrick_Ross @ Thu Jun 23, 2005 2:08 pm

I think that's too simple. Warren Kinsella was a former aide of Jean Chretien, and it's fairly obvious that he intentionally wrote a portion of that book as a political hatchet job on the Reform Party.
HOWEVER, if you look at the book as a whole, it's definitely a fantastic read, and something I think every Canadian should read.
What I really liked about the book was the focus on numbers. For example - In Provost (a place I visited on Tuesday, and was able to acquire a bunch of old newspaper articles related to the Aryan Fest held there), the Aryans were expecting 250 White Supremacists, but only two dozen showed up. At the Church of the Jesus Christ Christian (the Aryan church), the pastor has more than a 100 chairs set up, but fewer than a dozen are occupied. It's like these people have deluded themselves into thinking that massive numbers are going to rally behind their message, but at the end of the day, they're merely a fringe group.

ShepherdsDog @ Thu Jun 23, 2005 5:59 pm

Those are the hard core members though. Many people with sympathies don't openly participate in the hate fests.

Patrick_Ross @ Fri Jun 24, 2005 6:50 am

I suppose that's true. But the fact that a lot of people are at least uncomfortable enough with their sympathies to not show up for hate fests is somewhat of a good sign.

Well Ahenakew was fined the grand total of $ 1 000 dollars, an amount that the Canadian taxpayer will likely pick up.

"Saskatchewan provincial court Judge Marty Irwin fined Ahenakew $1,000. The amount was appropriate to prevent him from becoming a "martyr" for racists and bigots, Irwin said."

In his interview after sentencing, Ahenakew continued with his anti-semetic snipes, demonstrating an inability to comprehend the vileness of his views.

"Ahenakew reacted angrily to the verdict, calling it a product of a judicial and larger political system that has been racist itself against First Nations peoples for the past 400 years and controlled by lobbyists – an apparent barb at a campaign by Jewish organizations to strip him of membership in the Order of Canada."

Had a person of any other ethnicity, especially European, made these comments, do you think that a fine of $ 1 000 dollars would be the end result? Why has the condemnation, of his comments, by other native leaders been so muted? Ahenakew claims he made the comments because his blood sugar was high and he was suffering from medication side effects. That is Bullshit pure and simple and it's ridiculous that he would expect us to believe so. Satan has a pineapple with your name on it buddy  {for those miserable few who aren't Adam Sandler fans, watch Little Nicky)
