WTF kind of BS is this? No white males need apply is coming next. Whatever happened to giving a job to the most competent individual, regardless of race? Token appointments are ridiculous. Are we going to start setting aside seats for left handed pre-op transexuals, with a limp and a lisp, who grew up in a single parent family in the inner city neighbourhood that was predominantly peopled by neo pagan hispanics who follow a vegan diet?( wait..... doesn't the NDP already do this?)

Ed Stelmach was not even in my first 5 choices. But he is the leader and in hindsight, is probably the best man for the job. The more I get to know about him the more I like him.

The liberal media in Ontario are desperate to find something to attack Ed with. I reckon the race, feminist, urban card will play well out east and help keep the "blame Alberta" fires fanned until the liberals can pour gas on it as part of their usual election strategy.

   

Friend of mine in Edmonton knows him and said you won't find a more fair minded person. However, he looks at ability, not gender and rave. In my mind, the best person for the job gets the freaking job. If people are unhappy with him they can always vote him out...

   

I understand the sentiment behind wanting 'visible minority/women' ministers, but why not wait and see if these new guys can do their jobs before bitching? I prefer people who know what they're doing, I don't care where they come from. It's the reason I'd rather have a male firefighter pull me from a burning building. Not many women (that I've met anyways) can deadlift a 210 pound guy...

Although as an citizen of Edmonchuck, maybe we'll wind up getting the shaft under Stelmach that we did under Klein. Then again maybe not.

I'll wait and see before I bitch...or cheer him on.

I share your sentiment, but for a totally different reason.

Alberta is mostly white. We have a few, possibly 20% minorities. We are 50% rural.

Now, cabinent may be dominated by the 50% who are not minorities or urban dwellers. Bu let me ask this question: "How many black female city dwellers RAN FOR OFFICE?" How many blacks are in the Legislature? By my recollection - NONE to both questions.

That's why cabinet is mostly 'white farmers'. That's who got freaking elected!! Pinheads.

This is kind of sad they can't find much on the guy so they have to come up with this rubbish? For one thing more males run and follow politics more than females it should be obvious why there are more. Look at this forum in the political sections the majority are males posting in them. Alberta is "white" because the largest ethnic groups there are English, German, Scottish, and Irish. As for rural only 20% of Alberta is while 80% live in urban areas.

50% rural? I don't think so. Alberta's population is about 3.5 million, with well over 2 million in Edmonton and Calgary alone. Add in other smaller urban centres like Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat. Fort Mac and Grande Prairie, and it's closer to 65% urban. The voting system reflects our largely rural roots and rural ridings represent almost 60% of the seats but they have less than half the population (My guess would be about a third).

That's one reason why when Albertans bitch about a Triple E senate I laugh at the hypocrisy. The voting system in Alberta isn't equal, so why are they bitching about an uneven federal system? After we clean our own house we can bitch at the feds IMHO...
