Apparently in the Senate free food is not good enough

Jabberwalker Jabberwalker:
There are millions of starving children in Detroit who would just love some cold Camembert and broken crackers!
Then it's high time we shipped it to them, instead of giving it to our senators.

She did update Marie Antoinette to modern standards, and she doesn't just seem elitist. A Senator IS elite. They get to stick knives in Emperors, we don't.
Like I mentioned I was just a worker bee and even though I got flown places in a corporate jet with sandwiches and snacks onboard I wasn't precluded from having breakfast or lunch and claiming it on expenses.
And regarding "your" tax dollars, I don't recall a mention anywhere that once you render unto Caesar, that money's still yours...

REVOLUÇION VIVA!
Anyone wanna help me start up the "Baby Ruth Cheese and Crackers Foundation"? My plan is to provide Nancy Ruth and any other poor, deprived senators with a steady supply of unbroken crackers and cheeses served at appropriate temperatures.
You too, can help put an end to Senatorial starvation by joining our foundation or contributing to it. Unfortunately your charitable contributions will NOT be tax deductible but that shouldn't matter knowing you're doing a wonderful thing for our poverty stricken senators.
So please, take the time to do more than just think about those who have it way better than you. Your actions could make the life of an entitled fat-ass even cushier.
Thanks.

"I don't understand why you are all down on this enlightened lady of the senate. Fight on Sister!"

Dude, yes, I'm so Mailing her a box of saltines.
Our Senator is "plumper" than that. The political cartoonists will have a field day.

So why is she charging for her food at all? She lives in TO and works in Ottawa - does that mean that all her meals in Ottawa are paid for?
It's chickeshit money, but is seems these guys submit every chickenshit receipt they can think of and with orange juice at $16 a glass, it adds up.
She's in travel status, I imagine. That means you get close to $100/day for three meals and incidentals, no receipts required. It's something like $17 for breakfast. But you can't claim it if you get a "free" one, unless you opt out, and keep the receipt for the laternate meal and submit written justification as to why (normally "non-nutritious meal").

Let them eat paint chips....
Lest we forget
Bad sound bite. But Cheese and crackers ain't breakfast so I feel she's right and the whole thing is a tempest in a teapot.
We could do away with things like this and Bev Oda's $16 OJ if they just put these people on a per diem meal allowance like most workplaces. You automatically get a stipend of x dollars a day when you travel and no receipts required. That's how it goes at my job and it works well
We're allowed $15, $15 and $30. No receipts required.
Eh Jabber thanks for the pic. Gives me an idea for the US Senate lol.

We used to get $60/day then a couple years ago they changed it to $45, to "align with other employers". The employer's argument was that we would have been buying food anyway if we were at home so the employer shouldn't have to cover all the food costs, just the extra food costs associated with eating out.
We only get this for meetings which usually involve 5 or so hours(one way) of driving and hotel stays.
