Then how do you explain how this continues to happen in other areas of society? Well past the university years, or even first year university?

Cause our society has become anti-confrontational so they are never put in their place or humbled.

HAHAH really well I guess these pukes haven't met me.

Once again Mustang, all you prove to be is a pedantic windbag, but thanks for that reminder.

And once again, ridendumb, all you prove to be is an uneducated peon, but thanks for illustrating it. Next time, stay out of threads that are beyond your meager intellectual tether.

The best part is that your dismissive, cowardly response failed to address the salient points in my post! You're no better than these students that you chastise.

This dates me a fair bit, but I recall watching a story develop in the early 1990's. A girl by the name of Gwen Jacobs from the University of Guelph set out to challenge the law that said it was obscene for a woman to go topless in public. So she, accompanied by several other rather attractive female students, went to a public park in Guelph and removed their tops for the T.V. cameras.

I was at Guelph when the Gwen Jacobs thing went down. I had an 8 am class the morning after she was arrested and, hanging from the roof of the library, was a white bed sheet painted with "Tits are for kids, show us your hole". That was removed by 9 am when my first class was over.

BTW, neither Gwen nor any of her cohorts were women you'd want to see undressed. None fell into the category of "rather attractive". They ALL had about the same sex appeal as a second-hand Jeep, which is likely why their action was successful.

I had to go before a student court for a political correctness hearing when I went to UBC (early 90s). It was quite a wake-up call. The prosecution had hired a real lawyer. Only student lawyers were supposed to be allowed, by the crime were accused of was considered so eggregious (ethnic joke in a newslewtter) that, in this case, a professional lawyer was brought in. We, the defence, on the other hand, were not represented at all. Again, the crime was considered so heinous that none of the law students would represent us.

There was a panel of three "judges"--just more law students. They asked how I pleaded. I asked what my choices were. Then the prosecution moved that we pleaded "innocent." I said "Hey waitaminnit--why is he submitting my plea?" Anyways, it went downhill from there. We ended up just walking out of their after a few choice words from me (and some singing!).

He's too busy posting that the recent price increase on beer in Ontario is yet another attempt by the Liberals to run our lives via its nanny state.

I for one am glad Dalton saved me from cirrohsis of the Liver. I was drinking myself into oblivion with beer only costing a buck a bottle. Now that its prohibitively expensive at $1.07 a bottle I've decided to take the pledge.

And I'm so glad that my children are protected from my cigarette smoking and cellphone use while driving. Good thing they're tethered into car seats until age 7. How did we all survive childhood before Dalt?

Here's a tribute to that last remark:

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good. And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

I'm amongst the lucky ones!

He's a complete ignoramus. He stumbles onto the thread, tries to invoke Huxely (incorrectly, i might add), knows nothing about the actual subject, can't offer a rebuttal, retreats to argumentative fallacies, starts with insults, has never been to university and then, like a complete tool, ends up committing the very act he chastises student for! If he wasn't so sad, it would laughable.

Again, while I vigorously condemn the university and the students involved, this hasn't been passively accepted. Numerous editorial have been issued (from the Globe to the Post) that ALL call for an end to this anti-intellectual nonsense.

Maybe you should start trying people for imaginary crimes in you're little debaters club? That would fit in nicely with this thread too.

Maybe you could get a clue about a topic BEFORE your start droning on like an asshat. All you did here was come across like an ignoramus and anti-intellectual douchebag. You're no different than Queen's students. Well...that's not true as at the very least, they're at an university.

BartSimpson @ Tue Dec 23, 2008 1:48 pm

This past October a young lady whose parents are good friends of mine had a problem at Cal State Chico: seems she refused to attend some women's rights shindig in San Francisco that one of her lesbian professors was promoting and then found her grades in that class and two other classes (coincidentally led by lesbians) falling dramatically in the remaining portion of the quarter. The young lady asked the prof if this was related to the fact that she hadn't gone to this off-campus thing in San Francisco. The prof admitted privately that it was.

The young lady called her parents and was inclined to quit school. I heard about it at men's group at my church. I contacted my attorney and he referred me to some heavy hitters who took it on.

The school initially circled the wagons and denied this all had happened - but the young lady was smarter than they were - she had recorded the prof's conversation to her voice mail from her cell phone. Of course the school admin threatened to expel her for 'illegally' recording the conversation but that was BS since the act is legal. The attorneys then went ahead and filed against the school and the professors personally, meaning that neither the school nor the union would pay their legal expenses.

They cried uncle.

The young lady's grades were corrected and the school wrote a letter stating that any retaliation against her in the future would be investigated by the school. They also paid a significant amount for legal expenses.

But will this change anything except for one student? I doubt it. :|

It might make a difference if more students had access to the legal muscle that you have. Perhaps your friends should advertise their services in universities.

Ironically, I expect most college students would not avail themselves of these gents because the barristers in question are Christians.
