I started off voting for the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Then I started voting for the Reform Party, because they better fit my view that the Parliament of Canada was not working for the West, but for the East after the Trudeau the First tried to fuck us over. Hard and dry.

But the Reform Party got taken over by lunatics that stopped being Conservative, and after a back stabbing of David Orchard, they blended into the Alliance Party. Then morphed again into and even less 'Conservative' Party of Canada.

Now they are concerned with achieving power, and paying lip service to any hot button issue that they think will get them elected. And as Harper proved, they will write whatever Omnibus bill they can in order to keep that power, even if it comes at the expense of the interests of the general population. How many rights did we lose? How many partisan bills did he pass that he knew would be struck down in court - that got struck down in court?

Now think to this election. What have they promised the North? What have they promised First Nations? Climate change? All their talk of lifting the poor and small business out of economic hardship depends on Tax Credits, so you have to be able to afford to pay for it yourself and then get re-imbursed. How does that help any economically disadvantaged tax payer?

They haven't changed. And there is no Progressive party out there not led by anyone named 'Trudeau'. So parroting that a vote for Bernier is really a vote for Trudeau rings hollow, because a vote for the CPC is a vote for the same Harper era bullshit we had for a decade.



"Tory" means 'Rebel' or 'Highwayman' in the Gaelic and referred to Irish Catholics in the mid 1600s. It used to mean the Progressive Conservative Party, because Progress was rebellious. The CPC are not fit to be called 'Tory'. They are as mainstream as it gets, and as far from Rebels as they could be.

And which of your views do they best reflect? I've never know you to be pro abortion. You actually believe that Climate Change is real. You believe in small government, and responsible spending.

They have demonstrated the exact opposite of these beliefs in the past.

   

I didn't have a problem with Stephen Harper whatsoever. In the things that mattered to me, he delivered on his promises. There were other things that he promised that might have gotten tossed aside, but I personally think he did a decent job as PM. I'd rather have him back instead of PM Potato Head that we have now and the three-ring circus he's turned this country into.



Mad Max turned rebel, and look where that got him! He took the dregs of society out of the Conservative party to follow him, and I'm sorry I was part of the PPC for a short time before I came back to reality and re-joined the real Conservatives.



I am not pro abortion, I am against it. Climate change is an issue to a certain extent, but as I've mentioned in other threads, it's at the bottom of my worry list. I'm too busy living paycheque to paycheque and hoping my fragile house of cards called a life doesn't collapse prematurely on me. I do believe in small government, responsible spending, and lower taxes.

The Conservatives are by far the best option right now, and I'm not going to make the mistake of leaving them again for a spur of the moment idea. A Conservative minority is what we really need in this country. I believe that majority governments have a little too much power, and one would be a very bad thing at this particular juncture.

The Bloc, the Maverick party, the PPC, and everyone that votes for them need to have a reality check and give their heads a shake. Voting for fringe parties born out of either stupidity or anger are not the answer, and never will be.

A riot is the language of the unheard.

The disenfranchised have no path with the major parties. It is not the voters of the fringe that need to give their heads a shake it is the establishment that continues business as normal while standing on the throats of the very people they are supposed to help.

It sickens me that the NDP has the cheapest platform simply because they want to enforce the rules on the books. If the cons were REALLY about getting more money to the average Joe Canadian maybe they would talk about that but they won't. You will not hear a peep out of O'Toole about the Panama Papers

   

You weren't paying attention then. So many omnibus bills, of which no one knew what was really in them, except one budget item, so that if they didn't pass then an election would be triggered. I applaud him for running a minority government like it was a majority, but I do not like many of the things he passed. He stripped away much of our privacy with respect to how much Government was allowed into your life.

That is a deal breaker for me. That, and the promises he did keep were ties to legislation that was illegal, and fell before the court.



Max is not a rebel, he's an idiot. It's a simple matter that he is unable to distinguish reality from political ambition. Listen to any of his speeches, then compare it to dictators and liars of the past. He basically plagiarizes their speeches!

When the PPC actually becomes a Conservative party, I might look them up.



Then you believe in nothing the CPC actually does, just in what they promise. And have you learnt the value of an election promise yet?



I quite agree about the others, but the CPC are in that same sinking boat.

And I can't wait for a provincial election, because the UCP will be going the way of the PPC too.

Held my nose and voted. Never a good thing when you walk out of there not happy.

   

In my riding, it wouldn't make a difference who I vote for, as the blue Islamophobe fencepost will win with over 60% of the vote. But I still voted knowing that, and hoping that a riding or two flip to Liberal or NDP because they are close.

   

Voted. I always enjoy casting my ballot, and today was no different.

I will never NOT vote. Too many people die around the world trying to be able to vote, and too many Canadians take it for granted.

I actually took a good look at the Maverick Party (even though there's no candidate in my riding). They come across as kind of centre right--they are up front they will not bring bills over "social conscience" issues such as abortion. And they support my personal biggest cause--fighting to wrest power from the hands of Ontario and Quebec. I've worked for the feds for nigh on thirty years, and I've come to the considered conclusion that the west are simply colonies to them. Equalization payments are biased. Quebec gets repeated favourable status based on an outdated "two founding cultures" model. And democracy is the tyranny of the majority. Most votes are in Ontario and Quebec, so politicians and parties are going to put forth legislation and policies that favour where the votes are.

I'm not a separatist, by any means. But the Constitution has a division of powers and that has been eroded by federal infringement. And any party interested in greater provincial autonomy I will consider.

But then I read the Maverick Party platform, and looked at some the folks that supported it, and I could see that crazy you are referring to waiting there.

So it's my old stand-by the NDP. I actually voted Liberal the first time Trudeau ran--and don't regret it. Harper was getting all to comfortable being Grand Poobah (wait, that's probably racist these days, isn't it? sigh). I've voted Conservative in the past, and may again--especially now I'm older and living in the country. But I have to say I have had some fantastic MPs and MLAs who were NDP. People you could actually take your problems to.

   

There was a Libertarian candidate in my riding, and hopefully the NDP will take this riding again. The only Orange in a sea of blue fenceposts.
