Did Harper make John Tory unpopular in ontario?
Three years ago (before Harper's paleoconservatives took power), we had every prospect of a Conservative minority in Ontario after next week's election. However, recently there are evidence pointing that the Mcguinty liberals are headed to another majority. Why exactly is this happening? Is there a link between John Tory's weakness and Stephen Harper's right wing fundamentalist approach to politics federally?
Do you think that this is a sign that the federal liberals are going to sweep ontario again and form a majority government after the next federal election due to the unpopularity of conservatives in this province?
Tory sunk his own ship, one of the major fuk ups being his desire to fund all religious based schools, taxpayers don't want to foot that bill (I know I don't).
As FYI, little about Harpers government has been "right wing fundamentalist", actually the government is rather centrist with some right wing leanings (as a "Red Tory" this is my favorite government in recent history).
You're far out in left field aren't you?

Yep, that sums it up.
Faith based education.
That's the problem
I'm a small "p" pol so I like to ask people's opinions when there's an election. John Tory's negative campaigning has not gone over well either as people want something, some ideas or programs, to vote for. Sure he broke his promises but people don't even recall what they were.

its funny your trying to blame harper for this , i wonder if your even from ontario ?
and its definity not because dalton is running a great campaign.
no tory caused a problem by announcing the faith based schools thing.
also the media made it worse by doing dozens of stories on it.
as for harper he is still popular is rural/suburban areas of ontario and still has a long way too go in urban areas like toronto . not much has changed for him because of this. he still has 40 MP's from ontario and will still no matter the results on october 10 .
the results no matter what they are will not help dion and the liberals, also there will be absolutely no interest in another federal election in ontario and any leader thinking about one is foolish.

and also i haven't seen polls which say John Tory is unpopular , its more faith based funding was highly unpopular.
many polls indicated john tory was more liked than dalton mcguitny .
it was the party support levels which were diffferent.

Excellent post and thread. Although it did not have the purpose you intended.
It is helpful in that it illustrates many "inconvenient truths" on this matter.
Although the poll has three options the result is loaded. Regardless of which option chosen the answer is the same. That's why IPSOS/REID polls are irrelevant. Nice going.
The very content of your post indicates a very shallow partisan political view based more on partisan prejudice than substance. You are one of those individuals who would vote for a red-assed baboon if he wore a LIBRANO armband.
You have also illustrate how a relatively innocent statement of opinion can be so easily spun in a way which makes you look crass and foolish. And I wasn't really even trying.

and what i also find odd about this post is Harper hasn't even been involved in the ontario campaign .
his mp's are quiet and he has been no where to be seen in ontario , well other than ottawa where he has to be.
he simply hasn't had any effect on this election and can't take any blame for current problems .

Can you please provide a link to the poll in question, so we don't need to rely on your expert analysis?
Thanks.
