I know of a better fuel alternative...all though you would have to refuel 2-3, maybe even 4 time a day, it is almost absolutly reliable, with extremly low emmision. They are called "LEGS". Legs are free to almost everyone, and are very good at transporting people to and from places they wish to go. Although the total km's you can travel on "legs" in 1 day is limited, when used in combination with modern technology, ie "bikes", the total km's possible to travel is increased dramaticly, also shorter distances can be travelled faster, with no sacrafice to emmision levels.
Research also indicates that average people who use "legs" as a transportation device on a regular basis are in better condition, and live longer!
lol
It seems that GM is doing a lot more than other car makers to get a Hydrogen Car out there. Good for them, hopefully the others follow and the will public buy the cars once they are built
canadian1971: Its good that you promote the use of bikes and legs... it would be better for all our personal health. But thats absolutley not the point trying to be made there...
Anyways, GM isnt the only company doing this. There are tons of companies that have been working with this for years now. Mercedes is one prime example, about a year ago is last I read up on all of it, but they had been planing on putting Hydrogen busses to work in London. Buses that would actually be in service and everything. I'm curious as to how that all worked out, mercedes was also working on making a van of theirs [i forget what class it was called] but that is most likely refined quite a bit now.
Hydrogen is coming, and I think its a GREAT idea by GM to try and break into the industry area with this tech first because that will pave the way for domestic use. If industry starts to depend on hydrogen fuel for things even as mundaine as forklifts, it will help lay stronger infastructure in the whole deal and get the gears turning.
Only thing is... i'll be dammed if some day i dont get to own a thorting race engine such as a viper or ferrari or aston martin haha we'll see i guess

Honda is pioneering this technology. They have a much stronger commitment to clean, efficient transportation, not just to the cash cow of tree huggers who need to feel that they aren't hurting mother earth.
If we stay on gasoline for too much longer we'll be telling our grandkids how we used to drive short distances in 'cars' all the time.
You forgot about Ballard they started in 1979.
