Harper dares opposition to block child care plan
This is a strong move by a minority goverment and with the state that the Liberal party is in...it will work.
You are soooo yesterday.
Already covered with pictures and everything

I disagree. I think this is an issue that would not work out well for the Conservatives. Especially if the population gets the idea that the election was caused by the Cons......If there is a snap election, I think whoever was the party to cause the election will be punished strongly......
I don't think the corruption talk will work against the Liberals if there is a election right now, especially after what Harper has done recently. I think a snap election right now would end up with Liberals getting a minority.
Even though they are leaderless, they are processes to deal with a situation like that (election without a leader)......And also voters tend to punish parties that call elections while their opponents are leaderless......
Imagine what would have happened if the Liberals had called an election while the Alliance and the PC Party were negotiating their joining.....
The fact that all the provincial premiers also seem to be against the Con's plan to cut the Child Care funding would not help if an election occured over the issue.
I really don't think Harper can risk an election on this. He's bluffing, and the three opposition parties know it.....They'll negotiate something and have some kind of compromise.....
Its also an important issue in Quebec, and since Harper seems to have such a boner for the Quebec vote, I really don't see an election over this.....
"Got yer nose! I got yer nose!"

I saw that pic yesterday and I almost started a thread called Harper Attacked by Angry Canadian.....But I resisted.

(hahaha, who's you're daddy now?)

Time will tell.....But if he wants to stay prime minister he won't be forcing an election before the summer.

Harper will not be bringing down the government - the Liberals will.
Also, watch for the NDP and the Conservatives to work together closely. They need each other. If you have noticed, Harper has been praising Layton and Layton has been praising Harper. The NDP is trying to move in on Liberal territory, and the Conservatives want them to.

Harper has royally pissed off the media. They are putting out headlines that say things like "Conservatives
Dare Opposition Parties to Vote Against Child-Care Plan"......
They are laying the groundwork to show that it is Harper who is trying to instigate an election.
If they want to, the media can decide who they want people to think cause an election to be held.....
Harper started a war with the media, and its not a war he can win......
Layton and the NDP are strongly against the child-care plan.....Right now all three opposition parties are against it...
That is another reason it will look like the Conservatives are to blame for calling an election.....when there are 4 parties and one disagrees with the rest, expect it to take the blame....
I don't think it will come to it though, I think they will negotiate a resolution. Although Harper is sort of a loose cannon and seems to go against what common sense usually dictates.......we'll see...
In the end, as in all governments he will be the author of his own undoing.

I think it also depends on whether Canadians actually like his idea of cash back from the government. If they actually like his idea and the opposition votes against it that could backfire on them. Also many people outside of this forum actually seem to like what Harper is doing and his idea's. I'm pretty sure it will pass because no party is in a position to fight another election campaign.
The NDP and Bloc already support it.
Vit C it was the media which started the war and Harpers won it.

???
This was the one that I was wondering about.
Vit-C is a desperate man but he's putting up a good fight and a much better argument than many of his comrades.
You guys are missing the comedy act in this. All of the parties support giving out the $1200 baby bonus. It's the coming cuts they are squabbling over. Those won't show up in this budget, they'll show up in the spring of '07, so it's a non-issue.
The Bloc, NDP, and Liberals will get together and decide who is going to support this budget...likely the Bloc, maybe the NDP, and the Liberals will oppose it. Nobody wants an election right now except the Conservatives. The rest is all political games.
