Heheh....

I wonder if Harper will fire his communications director because of this....

Instead of saying he was loath to cooperate with the Ethics Commissioner and showing disdain for an officer of Parliament, all he had to do was cooperate...

Interesting that he decided to go to Afghanistan right at the moment when the ethics contraversy was at its hottest......

Sounds like someone is hoping to keep his job.
This has been another huge, pathetic attempt to keep this in the news. It's done, move on.

Controversy?

I think on the scale of "who gives a shit" it simply doesn't matter to Canadians.

traditionally i am Liberal/NDP. when i first read about this i was ready to kill the guy. Soon i realised that if we vancouverites want our opinions heard, we will want someone representing us from the government in power, especially if its someone on cabinet, especially when the cabinet position is crucial to the whole trade war thing going on.

am i mad? yes. but i also realise the potential. so i can't say i want to get rid of the guy, but it will take a hellof alot to gain our trust back... say a fat 5 billion dollar paycheque from the yanks for instance.

They may have been cleared by him, but not by me! "OnTheIce" it matters to me and I am a canadian. It matters to me that a vote in a canadian election is a right and should count for something. Not to be F***ed with by the party that wins the election.

Try to remember you said that the next time you flame about the sponcership scandal.

I'm really starting to like the guy above me......... :D Keep it up amigo! :D

ridenrain @ Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:38 pm

.. and how much press is this actually getting in the rest of the country?
Usually, it would take a bomb or Mark Emerson to warrent the eastern news.

I'm not exactly happy with it either but I do think this is being kept alive by outside forces. The guy running the de-elect campaign, nor the two manure spreading vandals are not even from the riding.

If he was so close to a trade war settlement (that PMPM stalled it for the election) then I want to see him finish the job, then stand for a by election, step down, fall on his sword. Whatever. Put Canada first, then petty party squabbles.

BluesBud @ Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:57 pm

Here in Ottawa it is still thought of as a tavisty of the electoral system. When I last checked the people of Ottawa were Canadians. It is still mentioned on national news. Thats Canadian National News. Only the spin doctors in the not so Progesive Conservitve Party want this blunder swept under the carpet of the house of parlement.

I for one am not a member of any party but I know poor (or lack of) ethics when I see it.

hamiltonguyo @ Mon Mar 20, 2006 9:01 pm

Well if he was cleared by a Liberal ethics commissioner either

a) The Commissioner has a really f'ed up sense of ethics
or
b)The Commissioner was right and stood up for her view even though he betrayed her party

BluesBud @ Mon Mar 20, 2006 9:13 pm

I guess that is the end of it for now. I hope the constituents he serves have a long memory. The next time they trash this self serving opportunist out on the part of his anatomy that fills his chair in the house.

ridenrain @ Mon Mar 20, 2006 9:44 pm

BluesBud: With so few posts, I'd guess you were not on the board when Belinda Stronach, Scott Brison, and all the rest crossed over to the Liberal party. Of course, when "Shapiro wrote that MPs who switch parties just before important parliamentary votes are breaking the ethical rules" he must have been speaking about something else.

I feel that you are just bubbling over in righteous indignation so please feel free to vent about that.

I'm sure you're furious about the Liberals attempt to bribe CPC-MP Gurmont Grewal. Liberal health minister Ujjal Dosanjh.and Paul Martin’s Chief of Staff Tim Murphy were found innocent of any miss-deeds, even though this was a crime that made Watergate look like a parking ticket. The tapes finally proved to be legitimate and all the mud thrown on him from the media proved to be wrong too.
Do a search on this site because I've written quite a bit about it. I know you feel just as bad, that any party would involve themselves in such underhanded dealings. Please feel free to vent about it.

In fact, a search of the election directory would see many of my rants against the Liberals and their Democratic deficit. Maybe you'd like to tell us how well she fixed that problem?

I could go on and on but this should be about the pain and frustration you suffered under the government. Please tell us how mad you are that PMPM parachuted Emerson into the riding, against the wishes of the Liberals in the riding.

let me save you the trouble..
I don't believe you could find Kingsway or BC on a map. I think all you're "crimes against the voters of Canada" is a thin veneer over the usual opinion of the Liberal's entitlement to govern.
