Today, Harper ate crow (not the endangered kind,) and called for ideas from the environmentalist on how to deal with the pollution problem.

But why did it take him so long? After all, he is an educated person, though conservative. Why did he have to be kicked into working against pollution?

Well, the reason, presented simply, is that pollution works differently for Conservatives than it works for Liberal-NDP-Greens.

First, here is how pollution fits into the Conservative world view:

The Conservative Pollution Nexus.

Conservatives' supporters are rich Canadians.

Rich people have money to invest.

Investment opportunities are provided by business.

Business needs pollution.

So conservatives need pollution.

You may say, 'Come, come now, what about the effing Liberals?'

My answer is, there is a connection, but it is a bit different.

The Liberal-NDP Pollution Nexus.

Liberal supporters are poor Canadians.

Poor canadians need jobs. After all "The best social program is still a job"- Stephen Harper

Business provides Jobs.

So Liberals need business but only for the jobs.

The difference comes from the following points:

Harper therefore cannot push anti-pollution measures without offending his rich Canadian supporters.

But:



Dion can push harder for anti pollution measures.

Liberal, NDP and Bloc will just keep pushing Conservatives. For them it is a win win situation against Harper.

   

WTF are you talking about? He's been in government for a year. The Liberals were in for something like 13 years what did we get from them? SFA. Some of you liberals need to open up your way of thinking, maybe take off those blinders.

   

One of my NDP friends has just pointed out another angle.

   

The conservative philosophy of being supported by rich Canadians is a life long thing. Whether Harper is there for a week or a year, it won't change.

He will always try to work FOR the rich AGAINST the workers.
