Is't the time to say good bye to the Queen of England
" Of course, there are those who make the argument that it defferntiates us from Americans and is an important part of our heritage. However, I might point out that these people would probably also support keeping the spinning wheel and the crank shaft motor engine as well. Furthermore, if the only thing differentiating Americans from Canadians is the Queen of England, then we're in bigger trouble then I thought! Having the Queen as our constitutional head doesn't defferntiate us from American culture; it just borrow British culture! "

You've got a point. The question is if Canada, and Canadians are ready for abolishing the monarchy. I say rather NO.
Heck, a pool conducted in 1952 showed that 52 % of Canadians were "inferent" to the queen. 1952 ! When we still had the Red Ensing and not long after the Union Jack had been flying on Parliament building during all WW2... imagine now !

get rid of her.

I say that if 50% are neutral, and 30% are strongly against the Monarchy should stay.
As long as there is a strong opposition to abolishing the monarchy we should rather keep it.
When the society will be against monarchy either neutral, without any for keeping it, that will be the time. And it's not know.
As MacDonaill says: There's no point in entering into divisive constitutional debate over something like that.
Canada should do it when no debate will be necessary, when a big majority will be for.
As for now we've got more important issues.

Above all else, however, I believe the British presence in our gov't is a huge source of discontent among Fench Canadians.
Being a part of Canada is a huge source of discontent among many French Canadians. Why should we enter into major constitutional reform to do something that won't even please them?
MustangJay MustangJay:
Having a nation that humiliated your country and heritage as a power broker in your nation is a slap in the face.
So when France abandoned Quebec, that wasn't a slap in the face? Somehow being allowed by the British in the 18th century to keep civil law and the French language is the slap in the face? Please. If it wasn't for the British taking over Quebec, they would have been bought by Jefferson a few decades later.
MustangJay MustangJay:
In a world that's advancing by the second, I see the British monarchy as dead weight that only continues to hold Canada back from succeeding as a republic in its own right.
Using facts, please demonstrate objectively how Canada is "held back." I assume you have detailed and peer-reviewed statistics showing how monarchs hold back their countries. Or were you just talking out your ass about how somewhere there are Canadians who aren't productive enough because they don't like the face on the coins? Or how other countries are going "Hmm, well, we'd like that Canada if it wasn't for the Queen. Gee, I guess we'll send those contracts to Djibouti instead."?
Are you serious? You actually take issue with my statement that monarchs hold back nations? Yes, in fact I do have several sources of information that confirms that...its called a HISTORY BOOK! Dumbass.

It's awesome to give us some examples.

I've heard it said that Canada could have had the best of three worlds: British culture, French cooking, and American technology. Instead we got British cooking, American culture and French technology!

Actually, i'm extremely interested in how a constitutional monarch has held us back. Hope you've got some Canadian examples as well

As others have said, tell me how the monarchy has held Canada back? Go on, back up the stance you have taken.

While my comment may be a little on the blunt side, we have passed the point in this country where the Monarchy serves any purpose except for that of pomp and ceremony. We rule ourselves, she has no say in our affairs and can not intervene in anything that we do as we are a democratic nation. Her face adorning our money or even having people pledge loyalty to her for in order to be a member of the military is of no further use!! I am intensely loyal to my country and I have absolutely no time for the Queen or her minions. I was once told that I serve at the Pleasure of the Queen....all I did was extend my middle finger and asked them if she would like a diddle....becaus ethat is all the pleasure she will get from me.
