I liked John Manley. When he declined to have anything to do with the Liberal Party I knew ther ewas serious shit going on. I was lucky enough to be introduced to him through a friend who has known him since university. I found Manley to be right of center and speaks the truth about what Canada needs. His ideas had my support completely...which included us as a republic. He had ideas that I felt blended the best of both parties....I really think the Liberals saw him as a huge threat and that's why he's no longer in politics....
I liked many of his policies, but I was and still am fairly iffy about his anti-monarchy stuff. Other than that, he has my support.

No. Dion just doesn't strike me as anything interesting. He has many ideas I strongly disagree with, but the worst is if he tries to run on 'the environment', then he'll be nothing more than a joke (since he was a bad environment minister) The Liberals need a real 'restart'. Some feel they've been out long enough and are worthy to return to power now. Let's not kid ourselves here.. It is true, the party isn't what it used to be. The Liberal Party needs someone with real vision.

He wasn't as much anti-monarchy as he was in favour of simply recognizing that Canada had lost it's connection to the current British system of government. he saw Canada as a child that had out-grown his/her parents and needed complete independence. I questioned him on this as I always felt pretty connected tothe royals. He said he can maintain a history without still paying rent to a place you never visit anymore. What many here forget is the millions that are spent each year to promote the royal connection by the government. THe GG herself gets 3.5 million to travel and play dress-up! To me that's 3.5 million that doesn't get to programs we really need to support....Like Healthcare....How many MRI machines could we purchase for every trip to Africa she takes? I believe in supporting Canada first, everyone else last.
So with that said, I have changed my mind on the royals and could live with Manley as the PM....Everyone else in the Liberal Party, not so much!

I wanted Manley in after Chretien, but he didn't have much of a chance against Martin. If Manley was the liberal leader the party would be much different than it is now and I would defenitly consider voting for them again....but then again who knows what would of happened.
I do think Dion is more left than a lot of other candidates, but that's not the only reason. As confused said, he's going to be running the party with the environment as his #1 priority...makes sense since he was environment minister...but like confused said...he wasn't a really good environnment minister in the first place and I never liked him in that position. I think Dion will make a good leader of the opposition, but I can't see him as the kind of guy who can lead the HoC and Canada. Very few guys carry the characteristics for that job, I believed Chretien had it, and I also beleive Harper has it.

I'm neither left or right, if I had to hazard a guess I'd say I'm left leaning but the current Liberal Party isn't what I call a Liberal because they have moved away from their Liberal roots and the party seems to be hardcore Socialist. I'd don't like the socialist dogma, so I'll vote Con until the Liberals go back to their roots or the true Liberals leave and start a grass roots Liberal Party. I don't want to live in a Nanny nation where welfare abounds and that is what the Liberal Party was and is total control of it's people all the whilst stealing tax dollars and pandering to special interest groups and lobbiest. Contrary to the Hardcore Liberals ethos they don't have a "God given right" to rule Canada and I find it hilarious when Liberals state when we "Win" the next election. Talk about arrogance.
