liberals to hold off on election until they think they can w
Volpe, because the kids love him.
Dingwald, because he's so good at doccumenting expenses.
What the hell, all of them. Their all so good, it's like they never left.

That is possible, but the sediment is even more profound when the people who were around at the time then are the same people that are now put back in to position of power and influence once again. Dion is not in power, Harper is. Who would you suggest Dion have as a part of his cabinet?
Most of the Liberals that won seats in the 2005 election were of the old guard. And, I have not doubt that most of them will run in the next election.
Meanwhile, many Liberals that lost in the 2005 election will be replaced with new candidates before the next election.
It seems to me that the conservative voters are causing the Liberal PArty to change more than Dion is causing the Liberal party to change. Now isn't that ironic.
The question is not when they can win, it is when will the Liberal party have the money to go through an election? I heard their coffers are pretty empty.

The coffers have been sold, but I hear they are pretty adept with under the table brown paper bags.

The end of eras always usher in change. Dion is no Kim Campbell. The Liberal ship isn't sinking as fast as it was when Kim was at the helm of the Conservatives. However, I concede neither are wholly responsible for their respective parties malaise. Sometimes the only thing one can do is endure.
Campbell was more of a sacrifice than a hope to improve things. Her job was basically to take a (political) bullet. Dion is actually a hope to bring back the liberals to power.
Paul Martin is much more similar to Campbell, both of them were political sacrifices. It kind of saddens me for Martin, he was quite a good politician.
Martin was an okay guy.
I think he was generally a good man, but he was with the wrong party and had to take the fall for Chretien's corruption. Similar to Campbell, like you said. Although Campbell was a little dense and had a terrible P.R. manager (similar to Stockwell Day's terrible campaign in 2000).
Fun fact: John Tory (PC Ontario Leader and Leader of the Opposition in Queen's Park) was responsible for the ad that made fun of Chretien's face in 1993.
Martin was a fucking uninspiring asshole. They didn't call him CEO Martin for nothing.
if you want to find a fucking asshole ... look in the mirror...
and most of the torys who ran in the last election were cronies of the Harris regime in Ontario.. that must tell you something.... speak of looking for crooks... you dont have to look too far...
