The Liberals have announced plans to further boost our immigration rate. It's already gone from 250k to 300k in a few years and now will go to 350k. The alleged reason, to improve the economy and make up for our low birthrate.
Here is the problem. Reports started about the deteriorating economic success of immigrants about twenty years ago. This coincided with the increase in technology into the workplace, and our relying more and more on third world immigrants. Not only did they lack the skills but they lacked the language skills. I've seen nothing to say this has changed.
The tories tried to change this by upping the points for degrees. The problem is they didn't up the requirements for language skills. Ever try to get a job as a brick layer with imperfect English? It's not hard. Ever try to get a job as a kinetic engineer without language skills? Not a chance. You can get by with fractured English in lower level jobs. If someone is hiring you for a professional position they expect you to have top notch communication skills - in English. And few of our immigrants have them.
An Immigration Canada report recently showed the most economically successful immigrants come from - sorry, but white countries. With India and the Philippines right after (both countries have a lot of familiarity with English). The least economically successful come from the middle east and Asia, which have little familiarity with English, a lot of fake credentials floating around, and a lot of cultural issues with adaptation here.
But increasing immigration isn't about improving our economy, it's about improving the Liberals' chances in the next election. They've decided that the election will be won with immigrant support and are doing everything in their power to gain that support.

Obviously the solution is to criminalize anyone who hires people on the basis of their language skills and that needs to be coupled with a dedication to adopting all world languages as legal and acceptable in Canada.
Except in Quebeck where they're special.
