War Is

I said good-bye to my mom and dad, and I said fare well to Jane
I said so long to a way of life and climbed onto that plane
The sargent barked, the engines roared, I felt my eyes grow dim
I pulled my flask out of my bag and offered it to Tim

They say war is a lonely game, they say that war is Hell
They say that soldiers do not feel, I guess that's just as well
That they don't know this feeling like a hand inside a glove
For country, unit, friends in arms, war is just mostly love

I don't have any poetry to offer, but I'd like to say something about veterans and war.Remember the sacrifices of those who died, but realize also that alot of veterans,as well as those who didn't return from war certainly didn't want those that came after them to have to go through the same horrors.Remember that as citizens in a democracy,we are supposed to control our governments-not the other way around. And we owe it to our military-past,present,and future to insure that they have the support and equipment they need, and are sent into battle for honorable causes.
Our military should be used as an absolute last resort, when all other options have been exhausted. There must be a clear objective,as well as an exit strategy so that they may return to their families as soon as possible. They are some of our finest citizens and are not to be squandered for ANY REASON.It should be the solemn duty of civilians to insure that they are informed enough to know enough about why our military forces are being sent into harm's way BEFORE they are actually sent into combat. And if it is found that our politicians have not upheld the highest criteria I've mentioned, then they must be held accountable, and punished.
On a personal note, thank you Commonwealth forces from WWII.The heavy price you paid in the early years of the war,and the lessons you learned were passed on to us yanks once we finally got into the fight. We didn't always listen, but when we did it saved alot of men's lives.

I would rather pay people to wear a uniform and learn a skill as pay them to sit home and drink beer. That way our welfare is for our welfare. Just a thought.
