Should MP's be allowed to........

It would be interesting to see how much complaining would be coming from the right if this had been reversed and a Liberal had crossed the floor to sit with the conservatives. Yes I am sure you would be just as upset.
Political hypocracy makes me sick.
It's deceitful no matter which politician does it. The constituents voted that politician in partly because of the party they represent. It pissed me off well before this traitor did it.
RUEZ: regarding your av, I've often thought that the drawing of "Jesusland" should include Alberta.
Hell, that could even be their new slogan:
"My Jesusland includes Alberta."
(Nah.)

This is just a reflection of the attitude inherent in Liberal Party supporters. The fact is that, on a case by case basis, very few MPs who have crossed the floor have ever done so to sit as a member of another party. The majority cross to sit as independents, ala David Kilgour.

What about this hypothetical situation instead:
Long time Liberal back benchers get so frustrated when Paul Martin appoints someone, who just joined the party to a cabinet post, that they leave to be independants or Tories.
That's probably more likely than you're imaginary boogy-men
Good for them. If there are liberals who don't feel comfortable with the Martin gov't, they should have the ablity to cross the floor.

ahem,.. perhaps your neural pathways need refreshing? (j/k)
To Whit!
Bryden switched in an honourable manner (imho). He didn't bolt before a crucial vote or an announced election. He also sat as an independent until the next election (when his constituents promptly turfed him) even though he was allowed to attend Conservative caucus meetings.
You're welcome!
I agree that members should be able to cross the floor, but not without first holding a referendum within their riding that grants them the mandate to do this.
Crossing the floor without this mandate should not only be considered a violation of trust, but also grounds for immediate recall.
But as for Stronach, seeing as how no MP to ever cross the floor has been reelected, I would like to dedicate the following song in her honor:
-ahem-
"Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!"
Thank you.

Folks, to be honest it is politics as usual regarding the liberals. To abandon your party to the opposite side and immediately get a cabinet post reeks of underhanded behaviour. But like I said business as usual from the libs.
I firmly believe if it is a matter of convictions, then sit as an independant until the next election. If one switches parties in mid stream, so to speak, then I firmly believe there should be a bye-election immediatly.
To think that the average voter doesn't give consideration to what party a candidate is from foolish. Right now, in her riding, I would bet that the majority of people who voted for her are feeling betrayed, and a little pissed off!
Ciao!
