Some see it as a mark of intolerance as bad, if not worse, than the Nazi swastika and a cornerstone for the islamofascists. Others say that banning a religious symbol sets an unsustainable precedent that would never weather a supreme court challenge as it undermines principals that are the bedrock of justice. What is your take?
YEP, no doubt in my mind. Ban them.
maybe banning them in airports or other areas like that, but we have to respect religious freedoms. it's a pretty touchy subject and I don't really think burkas are a problem in Canada....yet. maybe it's best to tackle the problem now before it's established, or maybe we should wait until it actually develops into a problem then ban them.....I don't know
I don't think it should be banned but perhaps discouraged in practice. It should not be able to undermine any school or work uniforms either. I have actually never seen someone in Canada even wear one before. Most women who come here I don't think wear one at least the ones I have met from Afghanistan and other countries do not.
If anything the burka, to me symbolizes, the marginalization of many Islamic women. Like a gag, the burka immediately puts the woman in a second class.
In the case of the burka, that object is "slave &/or property".
Why are Canadians and Americans right now overseas fighting against Islamofacist like Al-Zawahiriand others. It's to bring equality to their citizens.
The Burka is a slap in the face to those who have given their lives for equality of all citizens, and died for freedom of the repressed.
Why do Muslim men don't wear burkas? If it's an expression of religion, then Muslim men should have to wear them too.
Banning the burqa may as well be lumped in with banning arraged child marriages, wife beatings, honor killings, and any of the other uncivilized aspects of islam.
To borrow from the liberals: the problem isn't the burqa, the problem must be dealt with at its root cause
which is islam.
There is no need for a burkas in western culture, the only reason they need it back home is because if they are caught out without one the might be killed.
We don’t need this part of Islam here in Canada.
Ban it, if they don’t like it they don’t have to come here.
I think it should be tolerated as an expression of religon, it';s wearing should perhaps be discouraged but I agree that a ban would set a bad president.
I have no issue with a female wearing a Burka in her home and in her Mosque but I consider covering ones face (i.e. Burka, ski mask) a security risk so I would support banning them in public places and in government offices, court rooms and airports. England is struggling with this issue now because a Islamic Cop Killer fled England wearing a version of the Burka and his sister's passport. We need to wake up to the threat that Extreme Islam is, the Burka is a sign of Extremism and since Sept. 11 the number of Muslim women wearing Burkas has flurished. WHY? Are they embracing a NON-Tradition (a veil is the historic garmet not a burka which is an Iranian and the Taliban's attempt at fashion.)
Another consideration is Muslim males Immigrants are dominant and some are abusive, Allah tells them it's okay to "Beat" their wives. So under those Burkas years of systematic abuse via beatings could be hiding. I seriously doubt a female chooses to wear a Burka but I've no doubt they are "Forced" to wear a Burka. Females under Islam are considered lesser beings, the devil in fact for our evil feminine ways. The Burka is just another abusive garmet tossed over women to control them like live stock. It's a shame it's allowed in Canada, but most Muslims quietly practice Sharia law and ignore Canadian Laws such as domestic abuse(criminal code/divorce laws/family law. When Muslim women embrace those laws a radical change will take place, a better life for Muslim woman can be found in Canada if they choose our ways over Sharia law.
