Clinton was NOT impeached. No Liberals claim that Bush lied to the public about WMD's. They are crying to impeach him for that and the Iraq war.

Clinton WAS impeached by the House and acquitted by the Senate. The charges were perjury and obstruction of justice.

Impeachment is a two step process, the House impeaches (The articles of impeachment constitute the formal allegations. Upon their passage, the defendant has been "impeached) and the Senate (if they get enough votes) removes the President from office if they get 2/3 majority vote.

That's splitting hairs.

Nixon was Impeached (removed from office)

It's like being in a court and the jury comes back with a guilty verdict, but the judge sets the verdict aside and decides to toss out the case. Have you been convicted or not?

I know that answer will depend entirely if you are Liberal or Conservative I guess.

Case in point.

It is not splitting hairs. If you are convicted, but it gets thrown out, you are still convicted. To even have a senate vote, you HAVE to be impeached. Get that through your fucking head.

Tritium, I think you are unaware of the definition of impeachment. Impeachment is NOT removal from office, it is a document charging a public official with misconduct in office. It is similar to an indictment.

The House of Representatives did in fact impeach Clinton, the Senate did not have enough votes (2/3) to remove him from office.

It is by no means splitting hairs.

Yank-in-NY is entirely correct. Impeachement is analogous to an inditement.

In addition, Nixon was never actually impeached. He resigned the office before implementation of the process though his impeachment and subsequent conviction.

$1:
Many mistakenly assume Richard Nixon was impeached, but he wasn't. While the House Judiciary Committee did pass articles of impeachment against him (by wide margins) and did report those articles to the full House, Nixon resigned prior to House consideration of the impeachment resolutions. Both his impeachment by the House of Representatives and his conviction by the Senate were near certainties.

Nixon's first vice president, Spiro Agnew, also resigned rather than wait to be impeached for tax evasion and money laundering.

Americans should be laughing at us over this one.

The Americans would be wise to learn with whom they are dealing. By far the majority of their oil imports originate from Canada. We should simply have used that as a bargaining chip. You screw with us on NAFTA we stop the flow of oil south. As an avowed fascist who shall one day run this country, I would not have hesitated to do this. It would be the proverbial 'gun to the head' scenario. The Americans (and many Canadians strangely enough) fail to understand we could shut down the US economy overight if we so desired. Oh yes. Let us get our military up to the US/CANADA border.

VOTE FOR A FASCIST CANADA!!
