Throne Speech Verdict- The Jury's Back and Harper Rocks!
Watching the Throne Speech today, I was struck by something I haven't felt in years. I felt it last month when the Prime Minister visited the troops in Afghanistan too.
Because it's been so long, it took me awhile to pin it down. But now I know what it is. That feeling is pride!
That's right. I actually felt a twinge of pride in my government!
The speech was actually focused and to the point. The speech actually set out what the government intends to do, rather than go on for hours with meaningless platitudes about how Canada is "comitted to the tolerant diversification of tolerant diversity blah...blah...blah".
Totally unlike what we saw under what's-his-name's reign of error.
I thought Harper's decision to invite a large number of deserving troops to sit in the house during the address was a nice touch, and once again demonstrates that the troops are actually appreciated by the government for a change.
Too bad we couldn't send a few of them out to dispatch the irritating, open mouthed breathers from the anti-war movement who were rudely repeating some mindless chant while the Governor General was inspecting the Van Doos!
Man it's a good day to be a Con!
C'mon Libs, admit it. We're kicking ass and you know it! You can still take out a CPC membership Derby, Rev.

They would but they're going to wait for that "hidden agenda" thing to reveal itself first so they can label him with and american flag and tell the rest of us see!!!!
Since theres no hidden agenda,..... forget it.
I also her alot of the nay sayers state that what he's planning to do based on his election promises are peanuts. At least these goals are attainable that Canadians will see happen.
Federal Politician makes promises and appears that his going to follow through, imagine that.
GO STEVO GO
I also hear some ndp and liberals talk of bringing down the house and calling and elction based on some cons top 5 issues soon.
You want to see voter back lash and cement a conservative majority please do it. I think Canadians are finally starting to see the light.

What the hell are you doing? Those troops were there in case of folks like Derby & Rev.
I hope there is one I can't wait for a chance to get active in the Conservative party and to help get that damn Chris Charlton out of my riding

I hope you don't still believe a hero like the easter bunny really exists . I have alot of skepticisms about conservatives especially with this new found mish mash party ideology of libs , reformers , cons etc because for one , the cons have a less than tasteful past , and another eastern cons are much different than western cons .
Its all still alot like a card game ...wait for the shuffle and see how the hand is dealt ....is what the other 60% are being so cautious about , before making a real determinable vote into the future of our great country .
Somehow I think popular decisions reached in parliament and partisanship won't change anything in Canada and only a real unpopular character or party will sweep the nation with any resembling change , and the only one I can think of is the Quebec seperation .
AHAHAHAHA!!! I can't take MCB seriously anymore. Seriously.
Man, I'd go on, but I have some serious homework to do, so I'll leave it at you're a fool, and I'll be on my merry way laughing my ass off at how the Cons behave and respond........

Lucky for US the first time you get to vote to won't make a difference, the big M will be here before you know it.
Sucks to be a Liberal these days, sucks even more to be one and not of age to vote.
You're right hwacker. It does suck to be a young liberal. Because we'er watching Canada be destroyed and screwed over by Harper. And there's nothing we can do about it. Which is why I'm going into politics and am hopefully going to be the next PM.
Too bad you won't be around to see it. Being 95 and all. Then again, I'm sure you'll be happy to not be around, with a liberal running the country and all.

Yeah right, don't get your hopes up.
Thank god I have logs to abuse you with 10 years from now.
I don't think the cons have anything to be proud of yet.. so far they have just shown to be hypocritical. Apointing senetor, floor crossings, unelected mp's.
But besides the hypocritical actions off ethics so far, we will have to wait and see as the house starts up now how the Conservatives will do.
There is nothing wrong with have a short throne speech, direct to the point, thats Harper. But it was the same things he has been saying all along, I think the oposition parties were looking for some comprimise in it. So if comprimise doesn't come in the house to many of the issues, the cons won't last too long.
Last night ralph goodale made a great speech to a press gallery, I liek this guy, I hope he runs for Liberal leadership.

And how exactly has he "destroyed" Canada? Was it when he actually showed a little appreciation for the troops overseas? Or is it that un-Canadian plan to jail criminals a little longer? Maybe you're upset with the fact he isn't picking fights with the US over their environmental record when our's is far worse? Oh, I get it, you're upset that he's cut off aid to the Palestinians. What an American lackey eh?
Don't worry Arctic. By this time next year when Harper has sorted out the softwood lumber dispute, put a few Crips on ice, and has the free world following our lead with regard to Palestinian terror groups, we'll still be willing to sell you a membership tothe CPC!
That's Ok, Little Lefties.
You can spend the time reading:
We need to keep track because we're going to see gross partizan politics, as the Liberals flop about like fish, trying to find rifts and divisions between the parties. Good thing Canadians have shown they are more interested in solid Conservative leadership that old style Liberal dithering.

Right. Just try to touch me with those logs. You'll be surprised.....

I agree the Emerson deal was distasteful to say the least, but it was no worse than Belinda. If the worst thing the Libs can say is that the CPC showed they can be just as cynical and opportunistic as the Libs, then Brison and crew are going to be in opposition for a long time.
I wouldn't say there was much wrong with the Fortier Senate appointment. The affair played well in Quebec and provided the CPC with a valuable organizer in Montreal. And while it's been about 25 years since it's happened in Canada, the appointment of non-elected Cabinet Minister is not unprecedented. Trudeau did it, and in the UK, it's quite common.

The NDP and Bloc are "cautiously optimistic." In fact, Smiling Jack was all over the 6:00 o'clock news tonight saying how much more open and reasonable the CPC are this time round compared to their Liberal predecessors.

Ralph is a good man. I'd hate to see him as Lib leader though, because I would take no pleasure in attacking him. Better that they put Belinda in charge. We'd eat her alive and enjoy doing it too.
true many of these "untheical" actions that played out in the first weeks of the cons power are nothing new and have all happened at some time with the Liberals. But thats not the point. Harper made it his main capaign focus that he/they would be different, "change" I think its all a load of shit, he sold the Canadian public good, but they are no different, as we have seen. And in my opinion they are worse because they expresely said they would not do this sort of thing.
But I think like a lot of Canadians as well as the opposition parties, they will wait and see how they do in the real game now.
I'm glad that you except Ralph is a good guy, even know he's an "evil" Liberal. But lookking at the contenders so far, although i don't know much about them, they don't appeal to me. Goodale has a solid head on his shoulders and is very well respected on both sides of the floor and is a great public speaker. I don't know if there has been a liberal leader from Saskatchewan either.
