YOU SHOULD NOT BE PROUD THAT CANADA IS A PART OF THE UN! What joke! What has the UN accomplished, besides screwing things up? HELLO OIL FOR FOOD SCANDAL!! Are you scared Canada may be a part of this? Every country that the UN has sent peacekeeping troops to keep the peace in foreign countries, they get their asses kicked and then leave! The reason we're having U.S. soldier issues in Iraq, is because we're trying to appease the world by being nice, when in fact we should have made certain parts of the Mid East an ashtray! The UN's job is to be nice and diplomatic but has failed greatly! And you are proud to equate yourself with an organization that is corrupt and does nothing but bash the U.S.?

Last I checked, sattelie dishes are illegal in most of Canada. Am I wrong? I will stand corrected if that is the case.

Obviously you are too ignorant to even attempt to engage in anything remotely resembling discussion. I've got far better things to do than to continue humouring you any further.

BigDubUSA @ Mon Jul 12, 2004 4:15 pm

You'd better read what's been going on in here old man! Don't come here mouthing off on your ass when you haven't been paying attention. Did you only read one post? I tear in all the time to American asses because of our domestic policy, justice system, healthcare, education, etc. I admit, our democracy is a "benign hypocracy"! But when I see you queers from the north, south, east & west of us (Non citizens) talking, criticizing about our country...this & that... And you don't even live here... I'll tear into your asses too! Intellectually! You sight for sore eyes of a country are so blinded by your socialistic govt. & media use websites like this to spread bullshit agendas and information! Explore this site chief, and see why I loggedON!

Actually, I've seen more intellectual arguments made by drunken beggars. I've heard more intelligent statements from the guy from the boarding house down the street from work who claims to be Jim Morrisson. You aren't intelligent, Big Dud. You aren't even smart. Judging by your writing and math skills, I'd have to guess that you never even bothered to get educated past about grade six.

What you are is inundated with the mythology of America. That's right...mythology. As in "not real" or "made up." Think American industry is so great? If we cut off the natural gas and electricity your industry would be crippled. Not injured or compromised...crippled. If we cut off the oil, the price you pay to fuel up your SUV would double, maybe triple. Without the UN, an agency you took the time to disparage, your boys in Iraq would be in much worse shape...that's why Georgie-poo went crawling back to Kofi Annan on his knees with his mouth open not once, but twice in the last few months.

You want us to give respect to your country? Quit acting like bikers running around shaking down other nations for their oil. Quit backing out of international treaties like spoiled children who want more toys. Quit threatening and posing and being friggin' bozos.

Every couple of weeks I write a column on imperialism. I was concerned that I was bashing the US too much, so for two columns I made a concerted effort to find a current example of imperialism that the US wasn't involved in. I couldn't do it. Every single time the topic of imperialism comes up in this century or the last, the US is there with blood on their hands and money in their teeth. I looked into Rwanda thinking it was just the French and Belgiums. Nope there was the US pissing around next door in Uganda giving away the rocket that shot down the plane that started the whole off and blocking any attempt by the UN to stop the genocide. I looked into small arms and how they cause so much destruction in the third world. Hey, the AK 47 is Russian, right? There was the US peddling death to child soldiers in order to protect their assets.

Would you like to explain that to the rest of us? Maybe if every single time something bad happened in this world the US wasn't there killing women and children to make a few bucks you might get some god damned respect. Do some reading, Big Dud. Really research things instead of just watching Fox. Don't piss around...get right into it. You have an internet connection. Tell me that's the kind of country you want to belong too...one that kills women and children for money.

An ever-increasing number of Americans, real Americans who understand what your country is supposed to stand for, are becoming disgusted with the actions of your nation. They are the real Americans, the ones who know that freedom and human rights go hand in hand and your country, by trouncing on freedom and human rights all over the globe, has become a parody of what your founding fathers wanted it to be.

BigDubUSA BigDubUSA:
Can you explain why NAFTA is hurting Canada (Try blaming your own govt.) Or better yet, explain to me why you think it's the U.S's fault.

Our country is being sold because of free trade and NAFTA. 13,000 companies have been sold since free trade. Twice as many companies sold in 1999 as in 1998 and that was a record. Manley said foreign restrictions will be coming off the other areas -- airlines, banks etc. Air Canada would be sold, BCE and CTV would be sold. All of the banks would either be bought or controlled by international banks the size of Chase Manhattan. As the companies are sold the top decision making jobs leave the country. This is a major contributor to the brain drain. People who want those top jobs need to follow them. This is leaving Canada an empty shell. It's largely and illusion that free trade has been good for us. We've only had two good years in the last 10 and that's due to low interest rates. The other problem is that though many are doing well, there are many who aren't participating in the benefits. We have more poverty and child poverty than we had before free trade. If you go back before 1974, there were no food banks and no people sleeping on streets.

The total US credit market debt expanded at a seasonally adjusted $2.733 trillion (in one year) to $34.625 trillion. Now, if we take GDP to be $11 trillion this increase in debt is equal to a quarter of GDP. Since the beginning of 1998, total U.S. borrowings have climbed from about 255% of U.S. GDP to 302%. This is higher than the 260% of GDP recorded at the height of the bull market in 1929. Total U.S. mortgage debt now stands at $9.618 trillion. This is almost as much as total Personal Income. So, in mortgage debt alone, the U.S. owes everything it makes. Mother Nature is a hanging judge and this is the primary motivator for change not Democratic ideals.

With absolute free trade with the US many of our agriculture areas would be wiped out. People have been misled into believing that NAFTA and free trade were about trade, but they were about investment. Pat Carney confirmed that Americans wanted investment on the table because if it wasn't there was nothing to talk about. They wanted access to our oil, gas and soon our water. They wanted ownership, not trade. The national treatment clause gives American investors the same rights in Canada as citizens. What is the point of citizenship then? IN practice, this allows Americans to invest in Canada without conditions or limits. We can't tell them to invest in certain areas or set other conditions and no limits. We can't say you can only buy 50 per cent of our forestry or oil and gas, because the treaty says they can by them all. We want the kind of treaty that Canadians were led to believe the trade agreement was. We can compete in trade, but we can't compete in investment with the U.S.

The problem under NAFTA is the chapter 11 clause that is an infringement on our sovereignty. It gives corporations the right to sue Canada if any level of government here passes or amends a law that affects their profits, or future profits. The Ethyl case is the best known. The Parliament banned importation into Canada of MMT, a gasoline additive. Ethyl sued and when the government was advised it might lose it settled out of court for $13 million U.S.. Then Parliament had to repeal the law. What kind of democracy is it when a foreign corporation can tell parliament what laws to pass. Every bit as bad was that two cabinet ministers had to say that MMT wasn't harmful, when research was showing it is harmful, especially to children. There are other cases. The Sunbelt Corp. is suing for billions because we won't sell water. UPS is suing for $225 million because it says Purolator is being subsidized by the government. When we lose it is the taxpayers who pay. These are just the tip of the iceberg.

Spare me with the rhetorical crap that most of you copied & pasted from a Canadian news article. (You talk about biased media)... Before any of you say it, I know we have our own biased media, so I don't want to hear it! About 80% of what I read from your posts was all about how the "Mighty USA" is at fault for Canadas domestic/foreign issues, which is absurd (And of course nothing to back it up) You sound like all of the third world countries who want a handout, without working, whose governement shits on them, and it's America's fault! Why don't you people help yourselves instead of pointing the finger for all of your problems? Did you ever think that your government is to blame? It's funny... America has so many social/ foreign policy issues but do you see us pointing a finger at another government/country? (In some cases... of course, and it's mostly our own Govt. Not the people...) No! We let our govt. hear it! Your government fucks you, then you blame us! And most of you are getting your info. from BLOGS! (I've seen the credits on some of your pathetic replies) And is such a bogus source! You talk about an impressionable society. What do you people only have one source for news and information? Isn't that sort of like Communism? But you SHEEP are proud of that! For those of you who think we are shaking down countries for oil & resources, please have a reliable source, not someone's opinion. And know your knowledge about the oil industry. It's huge money worldwide! So if you think the US is the only country profiting from all of this, you are so naive. There are scandalas deals going on everyday, yet we will never know. But of course it's easy to blame America first! RESENT & ENVY! Iraq is a perfect example...Since 9/11 we have Liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran & N. Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We are criticized constantly for world problems, and no other country wants to do a dam thing about it or just turn the other cheek and point the finger. Again I submit to all of you to think about, what has Canada done (worldwide) to improve your country and the world? On a scale comparable to the U.S.? On a level where we have supplied the world with trillions of dollars, manpower, resources & education (non-citizens who take advantage of higher education) And still is overlooked by you and other countries. I am not saying at all that America is perfect... But the good significantly outweighs the bad. Like the little sheep you are, small minds can only focus and comprehend a little bit at a time. Using America as an excuse for problems you cannot solve, taking the cheap shots, while exploiting our generosity.

I apologize from all of us down here for Bigdub's statements. All Americans are not really like this and I don't believe Big Dub believes half the things he says. A good little pun in his name.

With that said...He (or She) has asked to prove him(or her) wrong, yet no one has asked for him (or her) to prove the accusations that he (or she) has made are right. Until now. Bigdub, prove your original statement is true.Since you have mentioned it, please use more than one source.

BigDubUSA @ Tue Jul 13, 2004 12:22 pm

Too many countries (like Canada) isolate themselves in their own self righteousness. I can honestly say that majority of most Americans do not go around with such discontent for other countries (we're too plitically correct to do so.) It makes me sick to see sites like this with such hatred for America, that I cannot let it go unchallenged (especially when people are so misinformed.) Just like our own Liberals here in America who truly believe that the Bush Admin. was responsible for 9/11. If people really believe that without having one ounce of proof... They are living on Mars! Even after this post (watch) I'm sure someone will reply trying to say how America was responsible for 9/11, the Madrid bombing, etc, etc. But with absolutely no fact, just pure generalization.
But it's Canadian sites like this (along with many others...I've checked) who can only focus on 10% of bad things (mistakes) and exploit them to look like 90% MOVE FORWARD! I signed up here to get a feel of what people are talking about, and can only see a lot of ignorance or people who do not know what they are talking about (yet think they are elite) I actually love this site now because some of the posts I've read are unbelievable! And every problem/issue that Canada has had, the finger is always pointing South. Dam... I might move to Canada. I can do whatever I want and not be responsible for anything.

Boy who loves Canada for Southpark... Notice that all of my posts/threads are in "Canadian Politics" Lets keep it on this subject (I haven't posted anywhere else) I'm sticking to it... So lets talk politics. Don't come in here generalizing (be specific and stay on one topic), otherwise go to a different forum. Try southpark.com. Maybe there are some games in there for you to play with Terrence & Phillip. I am open to any political challenge... so fire away, and please use your own words.
