I'd thought about posting about all the support that's out there for those in need. Until I remembered the cuts.....
It's hard to remember that gov't = business and that no profit=no help.

It's hard to remember that gov't = business and that no profit=no help.
That's why I couldn't understand why so many were so critical of Jack Layton when he held Martin responsible for homeless deaths. Martin, as finance minister, implemented cuts that had a direct correlation to the number of homeless and the help available to them. Combined with Mike Harris war on the poor it caused most available help to disappear. Many died.
It was all done because Martin thinks that government should be run like a business and he fails to recognise that government is there to look after citizens, not to turn a profit for the corporate shareholders. Harris was even worse, thinking that governments were there to enrich his personal friends. Until we start holding politicians directly responsible for the outcomes of their policies, things like this will continue to happen again and again.
I saw Mike Harris on TV the other day. Imagine my surprise when I discovered he had no horns nor tail.
He had his horns and tail removed when he was a wee lad. His parents thought is was just a birth defect, but it turned out they were wrong.
