The problem with a right wing american style capitalism is that it's prefers that the majority of the population turns out to be a mentally scaled down reckless consumer that will eat whatever poop you throw at 'em (throwing colorful sprinkles on for good measure) all for a good "healthy" economy.

"As long as it fills me pockets!"

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Sorry if it offends you to point out the obvious that our standard of living in relation to the US ( not Sierra Leone) has steadily degraded over the past decade.

Do you care to point out your source for this information?

If you are talking about the UN Human Development Index?

FYI Canada ranks #4 and the US ranks #8.

Canada's consistent #1 finishes according to this index (1991-2001) ended once they started factoring in the state of Canada's Aboriginal populations living on Indian Reserves.

So therefore the average Canadian's standard of living has not dropped at all. The measure for calculating the standard of living has just changed.

However if you are talking about our GDP per capita, we have lost some ground perhaps to the USA. However I don't beleive that measuring a countries GDP is a good measure of how well the population actually lives.

http://www.studyvec.com/facts-about-canada/ http://www.studyvec.com/facts-about-canada/:
Living Standard
Canada ranks sixth in the world in standard of living (measured according to gross domestic product per capita), behind only the United States, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, and Japan. Canada's rank among nations tends to rise even higher in assessments that consider GDP per capita along with other factors (e.g., life expectancy, education) that contribute to "quality of life."

But I'm sure you have a backpack full of information that you are basing your claims on. I'd sure like to see!

Donnie, hiring the best people for the job REGARDLESS of colour, religion, race or ethnic background is exactly what I agree with. But you immediately called the white racist bigoted class of people who won't hire me. BOO HOO!
You shoot your mouth off about best person for the job and then whine that the ethnic diversity is not on par with the make-up of Canada. That being said you must be in favour of hiring quotas and affirmative action which have been shown to INCREASE racial problems.
Whining about the problem is all you are doing. Maybe get off your ass and do something about it, help minorities get the education that they need to compete in todays society, start up your own company. The person who just bitches about how society picks on me, nobody will hire me needs to grow up!
The last time I checked no Canadians were refused the OPPORTUNITY to strive for a higher education or better job. But I suppose its easier to blame others for your problems, rather than accept some responsiblity for your situation in life!

Why is it, when talking to socialists and you use quiet and succinct phrases to explain your point of view... they always SHOUT back at you.

Frank

Because they think you are dumb like a sack of hammers when you talk slow and your comments are illiterate or otherwise don't make sense.

Like I said your shouting again.

Nice bit of selective memory here  . I'm reasonable enough to allow that Glen Clark sucked, but have you ever heard of Gary Doer? Lorne Calvert (you know, Premier of newly-declared "have" province Saskatchewan)? Tommy Douglas?

And do you know what they have in common? They are all fiscally responsible NDPers. So is Jack Layton.

This is really hilarious, first off I live in Saskatchewan so I know what is really going on here. Lorne Calvert has run deficit governments ever since he took over from Roy Romano 4 years ago. They just play a cute shell game with the money where the draw money from the “fiscal stabilization fund” that doesn’t actually have money in it but our total debt goes up a corresponding amount to the with draw form this supposed “fund”.

As far as us being a have Province, that is a result of $50 barrel oil. The government doesn’t get any credit for the $1 billion oil win fall that it did nothing for, just good luck for the Province.

Lorne Calvert government has increased spending ever year far ahead of inflation and government revenues. Even this year with a $1 billion oil win fall and record government revenues. We still drew from the “fiscal stabilization fund” increasing our total debt by $150 million dollars.

Roy Romano did some good things here but I wouldn’t go waving the Lorne Calvert flag and he is definitely not a fiscally responsible NDPer.

I just read this again and it occurs to me that a lot of people on here would benefit greatly by learning what parties are where on the political spectrum. For instance, the premise that the Liberal party is socialist is bizarre and twisted. Even left-leaning is a stretch for the Liberals given their record. Given Paul Martin's stance and record, the Liberals are to the right of Red tories and even some traditional tories.

xerxes @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 1:42 pm

Rev, you know facts and reality means nothing to the people who can equate the Liberal Party with socialism.

I find the Liberal Party is usually defined by who its leader is. Under Trudeau, they were more liberal. Now with Martin they're more fiscally conservative.

Why the Left is Wrong ALL THE TIME!

I'll respond to this in the typical left-wing manner by saying: *Ahem*........

THIS IS BIASED RIGHT-WING CONSERVATIVE CRAP!!!!!!!!!

After all, anything us "biased left-wing liberal idiots" say, is instantly responded to with the classic: "This is left-wing biased crap, blah blah blah."

I deem it only fair that we treat you in the same manner  ..............

Rev_Blair @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 1:49 pm

I keep hoping that people will take the time to learn, Xerxes. They never do.

how scared the lefties are of a return to Mike Harriss Ontario quote]

I know the fucking bastard doesn't think twice about killing Indians!!!!!

It took Mike Harris his entire first mandate just to get the province back to normal.
The conservatives went whole hog on selling off public assets, crown lands etc in order to "balance" their budget. No astute managing there.

Chigeeng @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 2:03 pm

The fucking bastard killing Indians was my statement.

Rev_Blair @ Fri Apr 22, 2005 8:27 pm

I'd like to second that, Chigeeng. What happened at Ipperwash was brutal and had the nod from the top. Everything I've seen about that whole thing makes me want to puke.

We keep pretending to be past that...

EyeBrock @ Sat Apr 23, 2005 7:54 am

Ok, if the Liberals don’t qualify for the label “socialist” how do we describe the NDP?
