What is wrong with this metaphor when related to Canada and the Provinces??? The same occured when British colonies freed themselves up.
C'est une excellente métaphore; Je ne peus voir pas quelque chose mal avec lui.
I also like the metaphor gaulois. (it is almost druidlike......sorry everybody, inside joke)

The metaphor can also be used in regards to a new family reality which occurs in many occidental countries these days. In Québec we call it the 'Tanguy Syndrome' , named after a French movie called "Tanguy". It is about children who don't want to leave the family nest once they have become adults. Maybe that's where general apathy stems from? Who knows. Comfort and commodity are often the main reasons why people will try to maintain the status quo. Are our children becoming desensitized to their adult responsibilities ?
I could go on with a technology metaphor where in the past the intelligence of network was at the centre and the switch had all the intelligence aka the features. And then PCs (the Personal Computers - not the Conservatives!), the Internet, VOIP and the Vonage providers came along. Most of the intelligence was removed from the centre of the network. The network became a set of losely coupled mainly autonomous nodes servicing the local needs. The "centre of the network" evolved into Gateways and pooled resources of dumb servers (print, billing, archive, etc....). Vendors, Providers and Enterprises that did not evolve to these changes ended up as roadkill.

Now what is wrong with this 2nd metaphor for increasing Canadian Sovereingty? And why is it that most members on Vive IMHO perceive decentralization of the federal power toward the provinces something close to high treason? Riel got strung up for that too? The Quebec Sovereignists have not been treated all that much better either. Newfoundlanders and Albertans talking this language get depicted as US sellouts. Just asking about the old country nostalgia. Time to move on with Canada anyone?
Quebec is the oldest bro................

Guess thats why he's spoiled!

Like Alberta, these bro's only like being part of the family when they are on the recieving end of the benefits. Doin chores is still a fight!

Dennis Baker
This metaphor can be used to express the feeling (Should I stay or should I go?). However, it is not accurate to express the political and historical status.

The colonies have founded the federal, not the opposite. I don't recall having seen any children giving birth to their parents.

I rather see this like a contract that turned wrong and one or few members of the partnership are not satisfied regarding how chiefs commitee is managing the whole group and the power this comitee gave itself.
( not satisfied regarding how chiefs commitee is managing the whole group )

that's the long and short of it. Language , ethnic background, geographic location, are side shows intended to confuse the citizen.

But we may have a chance with Mr.Martin, I'm optomistic
also been punched in the head alot.

Dennis Baker
