You are forgetting that it was Mulroney's tories who wrecked Canada and the Liberals who fixed it. I still remember the "Northern Peso" and the "honorary member of the Third World" status that Brian got us into. I also remember when the tories went from a majority government to a dwarf party with only one seat, and deserved it too.

Harper will take Canada exactly where the US is under Bush: borrow money for tax cuts, privatize health care, sell out the country, send troops to Iraq, etc. It will take another Liberal (or hopefully NDP!) landslide in 4 years to fix it.

Bob Rae saw to that. Doesn't matter how much the NDP tries and distance themselves from Rae.

When the shit really hits the fan, and if Layton one more time talks about 'transparency' in government...all what most pundits will have to do is recall the infamous 'double-books' that the Rae government had to release.

One financial book with the real story of the Ontario Government (loosing money fast and going deep into debt)

And the second book, an 'uber-spun' book all rosy-bright eyed for investors to look at.

Bob Rae basically almost destroyed Canada by destroying Ontario. Mike Harris basically saved Canada. Most Canadians want another Mike Harris to run Canada, and Harper is the closest so far.

Pure hypocricy and this shows you the extent to which Liberals are willing to sellout anything for political advantage. When Martin was too chicken shit to have same-sex-marriage debated and sent it to the court, he himself threatened to use the notwithstanding clause should the court rule against it. The notwithstanding clause is an insurance policy in case the courts err in decisions affecting human rights, now it's expendable Mr. Martin?
When Martin was too chicken shit to have same-sex-marriage debated and sent it to the court, he himself threatened to use the notwithstanding clause should the court rule against it.
This is not quite accurate. It was not the same-sex issue on which Martin had suggested he might use the "nothwithstanding clause." He threatened to use it to protect public health care.

That does not alter the fact that Martin has been inconsistent on the use of the clause. It might just as well be that he sees getting rid of the ability of the federal government to use the clause as a way to get out of protecting universal access to health care.

“Let's say that some kind of decision came down that was going to force…churches, synagogues, mosques or temples to redefine marriage in a way that that particular religion did not want to, then I would use the notwithstanding clause.” – Paul Martin (CBC, December 18, 2003).

This is totally Martin's 'last ditch effort' to save his campaign. The very thing he kept on saying he'd protect (Charter), he now wants to fuck around with.

He's basically saying what he thinks will help divert enough attention from the Income Trust/Gomery, to make people think that he'll prevent evil Conservatives from using the 'Notwithstanding Clause' to vetoe people's right to eat, sleep and live.
