Real issues and non issues

I don't know man. I suppose it depends where you get your news from.

If I look at the front page of Google news, then it's pretty much all relevant. If I watch the 6 O'Clock news, then perhaps there are some stories that aren't relevant and should die from crib death. But, I only mean - not relevant to me. To others perhaps it's different.

Perhaps a better idea would be; a top 10 list of underreported stories? Or a top 10 list of things that should be focused on?

familiarise your self with Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent.
non Issues are the side show, and predominate in Canadian Media, and here unfortunatly as well.

Dennis Baker

Gay marriage is an example of an issue to me that does not deserve the amount of coverage that it gets. Recent public suicide in Ottawa was an other one. I will sound elitist and will add the NHL strike. Provincial/federal bickering, flag wavering stuff, terrorism, hatred groups, pornography, war, tsunamy, global warming, etc... Items that cater to emotions are highly suspect. Politicians and their image makers are expert at pushing these buttons and divert from real issues.

Items that cater to real analysis seem left out.

The Auditor General's report looks pretty juicy!
The Gomery commission media coverage was pretty weak. They fell right into all this flag waving, golf ball narcicism, hot air balloons, greed, etc... And they did not cover the real issues of accountability, traceability, return on investment, etc... Gomery and the lawyer were extremely weak in front of the Chrétien clown act. A $250M total scam got turned into an expensive extra $60M farce for the taxpayer. I am convinced it has converted many Québécois into die-hard sovereignists (at the cost of $310M). Perhaps some people in the ROC into "provincialists".

Gomrey inquiry isn't over yet! There is still the Quebec portion! Of course it'll cost more, but I can't wait to have all the Ad Execs who are facing charges point the fingers at Cretien!!
These people are image "illusion" experts, just like the great Mandrake. It will be the same clown act thing staying away from real issues. Gomery and the crown lawyer are held back and poorly supported IMHO. I have myself discovered that you cannot beat a system like this one (hence becoming a "provincialist") . I don't see how they will.

The system does not want the inquiry to get to the bottom of things. Because they are plain ugly. The Libs will get thrown out on next election and unfortunately there is no alternative IMHO.

I don't understand why this adscam gets so much coverage. When 80% of party donations are corporate, it makes sense that the party will throw a few bones to the corporations when it gets elected. If there's unrest in Quebec, more money will go there. Or if the Liberals want to cement their support in Atlantic Canada, they'll toss a good deal on oil that way. Or BC with healthcare (or so I'm told.. I haven't actually investigated the structure of the new Health Care plan).

I don't mean to be overly cynical, but... our politicians don't serve the people. They serve the interests that will best get them re-elected. Hence the minority government producing the most "generous" budget since the Libs were first elected. They have to assuage a heck of a lot of interests.
I don't understand why this adscam gets so much coverage.
Looook! Shiny!!! Oooooooooo!

It's distracting from things that matter to Canadians, like same sex marriage, decriminization of cannibus, is Micheal Jackson guilty, . . . oh . . .wait . . .
